As a social work intern, it was an amazing experience working alongside a dedicated team of providers who were empathetic, supportive, and flexible with patient needs. I highly recommend CHRC to community members who need sliding-scale psychotherapy and/or health education. You're not going to regret it :)
I worked at CHRC for over 4 years. The staff is incredible and passionate about their work. CHRC definitely makes a difference in peoples lives.
I was a graduate social work intern with Community Health Resource Center (CHRC) this past year and can honestly say it was one of the best places I've ever worked. CHRC was an incredible fieldwork placement with not only a plethora of opportunities for clinical training (e.g. individual therapy, case management, health education, group work, etc.) but also offered a warm and supportive environment for me to develop my social work skills. In serving the community, CHRC rejects the traditional deficit-oriented perspective of "what's wrong with you" to a trauma-informed lens of "what happened to you" and eventually a healing-centered approach of "what's right with you." My experiences with CHRC have not only provided me with strong therapeutic foundation but have left a lasting impact on the way I will operate moving forward as a clinician. It has changed the way I see my role with the people I serve and the way I think about health and wellness. I am thankful for this experience and would highly recommend CHRC as an agency and an internship placement for MSW graduate students.

The Community Health Resource Center (CHRC) is a remarkable gem hidden in the corner of the California Pacific Medical Center Professional building at 2100 Webster street. This care center focuses on the essentials of everyday well-being with an emphasis on overall health maintenance as well as one-on-one education and monitoring of common medical issues such as diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol screening and education, in addition to weight management. This is done by the center’s team of knowledgeable certified nutritionists and diabetes educators.
Additionally, and most impressive, is their team of mental health counselors, led by CHRC's executive director, Scott Plymale, PhD, LCSW. Scott and his team members dedication to the mental wellness of clients is palpable. As a physician who has worked side by side with Scott and his team for over 2 years, I have felt firsthand the benefit and relief from their help with my patients.
Each of them has walked many of my patients through exceptionally difficult challenges of all kinds, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Their expertise covers the gamut: from behavioral health with individual counseling/therapy, to housing/eviction issues, to financial matters, legal queries, and job struggles. I have witnessed their endless patience and perseverance. Furthermore, their help has allowed me to practice primary care in a sustainable fashion and do more for my patients with better outcomes.
