Mission: Residential care, training and rehabilitative services for persons with disabilities
Programs: Community living - the community living program at the haven offers three options of residential support for adults with disabilities (1) on campus community living provides quality group home living in four campus homes on a beautiful 32-acre campus for adults with disabilities (2) off-campus community living assists and supports adults with disabilities to live as independently as possible within the community with the assistance of a community living counselor, and (3) in-home support provides the opportunity to live in the community for an individual who requires a higher level of care and twenty-four hour coverage in the home respite, temporary and emergency care are also offered to our community. 41 individuals were supported through the community living program during the fiscal year.
adult day training - adult day training is a multi-level, vocationally based program that fosters the development of skills for employment and independent living through community inclusion, employment readiness training, and hands-on job experience. Persons with physical, developmental, mental health, sensory and multiple disabilities gain essential life and work skills supporting independence. selby preschool - the selby preschool responds to an important community need to invest in children with disabilities and special needs early in life and their families. The preschool specializes its learning environment for the infants / children, birth through five, who have disabilities and special needs. "The Haven" is celebrating 60 years of serving Sarasota and Manatee counties 1954-2014. If you are looking for an excellent daycare and preschool for your infant or young child, check out Selby Preschool at Community Haven which has approximately 21 children enrolled. It is a community-based, CARF accredited program which offers a "best practices" approach through state-of-the-art Early Intervention and School Readiness programming which mingles children with disabilities with typically developing children. A Non-Bias approach teaches young children to recognize and appreciate differences and develops a positive understanding of disabilities. After school care is also offered.
We also serve children, teens and adults by empowering their lives once person at a time via specialized services and programs to include educational, vocational rehabilitation & employment, community living & life skills, recreational and creative enrichment.
