The CCNV has made a dramatic change for the better over the past 5 or so years. You can see the difference in the people who they serve, the volunteers that give their time and hard work and the partner organizations who they work with each and every day so that every person is taken care of as much as possible.

When Mitch Snyder established this shelter in the 80's, he wanted it to be a comprehensive homeless service center that empowered the homeless. The homeless people of his day (as he died in 1990) were involved in speaking up for themselves. CCNV has become very top-down. They need to return to the vision of Mitch, not just as a sentimental or nostalgic thing but also JUST BECAUSE IT'S THE RIGHT THING TO DO.
The DC Council and mayor have begun a CCNV task force to discuss what will be done with the property and its 1,350 residents when the 30-year federal covenant that was established in 1986 between Snyder, Reagan and various federal and city officials and forces the city to serve the homeless from this property expires. Despite the urgency of the matter, CCNV has been reluctant to come to the negotiating table and has utterly refused to involve the homeless people in a decision-making process that directly affects them.
