Mission: The Collaborative is committed to the belief that good design matters in every community and, moreover, that good design can be used as a tool to achieve community revitalization goals, such as promoting economic development or creating healthy public spaces. Over its seventeen year history, the Collaborative''s five full time employees have facilitated more than 500 projects for local nonprofit organizations.
Programs: coordinating the volunteer services of design firms and professionals to provide pro bono predevelopment design services to nonprofit organizations throughout greater Philadelphia; managing Infill Philadelphia, an initiative to generate innovative, workable design solutions for infill sites and to spur neighborhood revitalization; and rStore, a commercial corridor revitalization program that provides advice on design as well as one-on-one consultations on exterior facades of stores.
The Community Design Collaborative orients Philadelphia's urban revitalization with citizens needs first, placing the needs of existing communities in front of--but in cooperation with--political and private development interests that otherwise might miss the target of making Philadelphia a truly healthy city.
