Mission: Community Auto accepts donated vehicles, repairs and sells them at well below fair market value to low-income individuals who need a safe and affordable car for work and critical family matters.

Results: In 2006-07, thirty-four local families in need purchased or were given a safe and dependable vehicle. Twenty-one low-income workers purchased vehicles. The purchase price included a new PA inspection sticker, a full tank of gas and a one-year AAA membership. Those vehicles purchased for $1,500 or more included a 3-month/4,500 miles power train warranty. Thirteen Hurricane Katrina victims received free cars after relocating to the Pittsburgh area. The average price of the vehicles sold was $2,005—a savings of 30-40% below fair market value.

Direct beneficiaries per year: Our goal for 2007-08 is to provide 48 cars to individuals in need.

This is a new nonprofit that puts donated vehicle into the hands of low-income workers to get to work or to meet other critical family needs. Care is taken to match each family's needs with the right vehicle. So far 55 families have received cars at significantly reduced prices, about 37-48% of FMV. The obstacle they face is not enough donated vehicles. Please donate a vehicle if you are able.
