I've just started working for Communities in Schools but I already feel so welcomed. The camaraderie that I feel already makes me feel very comfortable. I am looking for to the school year and getting a chance to make an impact in students lives throughout the year.
I love working at Communities In Schools of Hampton Roads first as Program Director, visiting schools and seeing how hard that our Site Coordinators work to ensure that their student's needs are being met...... whether it's an encouraging conversation, helping with class assignments, or something as simple as a smile. Additionally, I got a chance to participate in some of the schools' activities, such as "Field Day" or "Career Day", which was a joy interacting with students and listening to their goals and dreams. As an assistant to the Executive Director, I get the opportunity to see firsthand how much blood, sweat, and tears goes on behind the scenes to ensure that adequate funding is provided to keep Site Coordinators in as many schools in the Hampton Roads area as possible. It is an honor working with people who have a servant heart and work diligently to impart positive change in the lives of our children.
My daughter participated in the reading program for the summer. Rachael led the program which was on Tues and Wed. My daughter could not wait for the reading program days. She absolutely loved the program. She loved when they she received the books in the mail. Rachael kept the children engaged. I would peep in my daughter's room while the program was going on and even though it was virtual she would be throughly engaged. My daughter loved the activities that Rachael would assign to them from the books. One of the assignment was to make an invention and share it with the class. Rachael would have them dress in themes like beach day or fairy princess. It was always great and exciting. Rachael did an excellent job facilitating this program and I hope that we are able to be apart of it next summer.
I am a parent of a student who was involved in the summer reading program. It was a enriching program that both my daughter looked forward to every week. Her instructor, Ms. Moore, made it fun and interesting to read with themed meetings and games. Would love for everyone to experience we did!! Hats off to CIS!
CISofHR is an amazing nonprofit. I thoroughly enjoy working for the organization. It allows for individuals to bring community resources into the school and giving them directly to the students. The programs put into place are life changing and encouraging for those students who are deemed to be at-risk. CISofHR is assisting in dismantling the school-to-prison pipeline.
I thoroughly enjoy working for CISOFHR. They have very competent and hardworking leadership and staff. They care about their staff and students. More than that, they continually are looking for ways to stay relevant and effective in their mission. A great organization, doing a great work!
It has been nothing but pure joy serving as a board member for CIS. I chose this picture because I had the opportunity to invite my sister friends to a breakfast hosted by CIS. They all were so impressed and wanted to know how they could support it. A lot of them became first-time donors at this event. CIS is truly touching lives and making a difference in our students’ lives, their parents, and our community. I feel fulfilled serving on this board and giving back. Thanks, CIS for the opportunity.
Communities In Schools of Hampton Roads (CISHR) has made remarkable progress throughout Hampton Roads schools. With an exceptionally committed and capable staff, this team is impacting students from K-12. Its mission of on-time graduation with a plan for each student's future gives hope to those who previously lacked a vision or motivation for their own future. The outstanding results of this data driven organization are well published. The performance standards for CISHR as an organization are closely governed by CIS state and national oversight team members. This is the largest, most successful and most economical organization of its kind in the world. It is doing great things for Hampton Roads students. I have supported CISHR as a board member and donor since its start in Hampton Roads.
CIS of HR is a great organization with a strong future in Hampton Roads. Each year with Its growth CIS of HR impacts more students, teachers, schools, families and the community at large with its partnerships and commitment to excellence and service. It is often under appreciated, but never stops in its efforts to have children beat the odds to achieve and succeed in life.
As a Site Coordinator for CIS of Hampton Roads I get to see first hand the impact our organization makes in schools and in our student's lives. There are many programs focused on solving the issues in schools but CIS of Hampton Roads has someone in the school to see what it needs and address it. Not only do we have people in the schools but we reach out to the community to further support our schools. This has not only been a great job experience but I have made many great connections with great people. I love my job and the people I work with, I can't ask for a better organization.
Oh how can i count the ways! Working with CIS or more specifically CISofHr has allowed me an avenue to do what i love to do best, mentor young kids. It's challenging work but everyday is such a unique day i can't help but look forward to what challenges await me. Hearing from the students, staff, administration, and the parents how much they appreciate my willingness to work with them to tackle the tough issues facing our kids gives me a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Our executive board is awesome for what they do behind the scenes, without them championing for us i could not do what i do on a daily basics. I have said it many times before and will continue to say it again, "i wish i knew of CIS as a kid", the sky's the limit now and i will continue to do my part in making sure as many people possible knows of this great organization!
Communities In Schools has provided me with so many amazing opportunities, as well as helped me create meaningful relationships with a majority of students at my school. Every day I am able to directly impact the lives of my students. Together, we work on a variety of skills that help them to be successful in school and life. Because of Communities In Schools, I am able to make a major difference with my students. The best part of my job is the relationships I've developed with my students. I wouldn't trade it for the world!
I am currently working as an intern for Communities In Schools of Hampton Roads. Learning from my site supervisor about CISofHR mission has been very rewarding. CISofHR gives me the opportunity to use my social work knowledge, values and skills in the field to help students succeed. I love how this nonprofit organization always has fun fundraising events that I can volunteer at. I love Communities In Schools of Hampton Roads and believe in their mission.
Communities in Schools has great influence on the clients they serve. Providing a positive influence and a safe space for the clients to grow and learn effectively, especially when struggles with home life are impeding on the client's education.
Working for Communities in School of Hampton Roads has been an amazing experience. I have learned an immense amount from being in the schools. I have served youths in various capacities but in this position I have learned what it takes to make an immediate impact and a lasting impression on a child. I wouldn't trade this experience for the world.
I love working as a site coordinator with Communities In Schools of Hampton Roads (CISOFHR) at EFE. I work alongside great colleagues who have a passion for working for and with children who need guidance, love, support, empowerment, and encouragement to excel academically and behaviorally. As an employee with CISHR, I wholeheartedly believe in our mission of "surround [ing] students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life". Together we are raising a generation of students who have the potential to change their life, build up their community, fulfill their ambition and greatest potential.
CISHR Rocks!
It is an awesome program that help adolescents get back on track with their education. Dr. Sinclair is working extremely hard to ensure the kids get what they need to pursue their education. It takes a village to help the kids of the world and Dr. Sinclair has prove that with Community in Schools.
This organization has assisted me with numerous resources and opportunities. The help and support these individuals give is beyond what any dollar can provide. I enjoy their social media pages as they keep opportunities coming in and allow us to see what type of things they are doing in the schools. I am an advocate that every school will benefit from this program.
Our Site Coordinator has been a great addition to the team at our school! She works well with the staff, the students, and the families. She has helped to put on different events that have gotten parents and students involved and engaged. She has also been able to make connections with business partners that have brought in additional resources to help our students!
I intern with Communities In Schools and enjoy being able to be a part of an organization that takes the time to listen to the needs of the students they serve. I love being able to be a part of an organization that takes pride in giving the needed resources they have available to make sure their clients excel at all cost to the best of their ability. It is a great feeling to be able to give of yourself and also give empathy and a listening ear to those whom need one. Communities In Schools has also opened doors for their staff and interns to volunteer, advocate, and excel in our careers whether its on the job or furthering our education in college. They also challenge the kids in offering them programs in which they can grasp how to develop relationships in the communities and other organizations gaining knowledge and work skills all at the same time. Communities In Schools is a great asset to all whom they serve, and I'm glad to be a part of it.
Communities In Schools of Hampton Roads is an outstanding organization that provides hope, opportunity, and support to many students. As an intern, I had the amazing opportunity to work alongside a passion-filled site coordinator and witness first hand the influence this organization has on schools, students, and the community. Mrs. Mathis-Spellman is committed to the students and works tirelessly to meet the needs of the students, school, and community. Her presence has had a positive effect on behavior, attendance, and the overall rapport between parents and the school. The students light up every time that they see her and enjoy working with her. This opportunity has opened my eyes to the various barriers that students face, and made me grateful to be a part of the solution. Supporting this organization is investing in a student’s success and future!
Communities in Schools of Hampton Roads has made a great impact on the students within my community. The cite coordinator is awesome and shows the students that she cares and loves them. Also she is willing to help everyone not just the ones on her case load. CIS provides schools with additional support and resources to assist students that are in need. CIS has been a blessing to many families and we are thankful that they have partnered with SPS. It is great to have support from individuals that have a passion to help families and ensure that students basic needs are being met. The smiles they help bring to the faces of our students and the improvements in behavior and academics are priceless.
C.I.S. of HR is a great organization. Hope and Tierra are assets to this organization, they go above and beyond to assist my son Sheldon Moss with resources. My son has positive influences at home, but having a neutral party to converse with and obtain advice is great, therefore; I appreciate them. Thank you for presenting him with additional opportunities... it takes a village... at times. I think each member of this team are making a difference in the communities.
Communities In Schools is a great organization. The services they provide inside the schools are extremely beneficial to not only the schools, but the families as well. The relationships that the Site Coordinator share with the students are unbelievable. I witnessed Site Coordinators reach student that others in the school or community were not able to reach.
Communities in schools has opened horizons and helped students in ways I have not seen in schools without these services. The impact can be seen in students!
Communities in Schools of Hampton Roads has a unique mission to bring the community into schools to remove barriers for students who are at risk of dropping out. The relationships between a school, its students, and the surrounding community is vital to empower and achieve student success.
Truly love this organization and the exposure it gives our students. It is important to see students receive opportunities they wouldn't otherwise receive. This organization has definitely given my child numerous opportunities that I did not know existed.
I currently work with Communities In Schools Hampton Roads, but I began as a volunteer. I volunteered to service teen parents within the school by offering them parenting education and providing community resources that they may not have been aware of. As a volunteer I heard the stories of these youth and the struggles they faced as young parents, but also as students who simply needed support and encouragement. I wanted to be a part of the organization and support it's mission of building relationships and helping students succeed. I applied for the position when it came available and was offered the opportunity and I took it! Who wouldn't want to be a part of a great transformative process in a student's life.
I have worked for Communities In Schools for 4 years. This is my second year working for CISHR. The team that I work with are dedicated to upholding our national motto: "To surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life". We are passionate about the students that we work with and the communities we serve.
This is a great organization with excellent leadership an proven results. I bet you know a student who can testify!
I teach at The Performance Learning Center which partners with Communities in Schools. We have changed the lives of many students. I had a student who was extremely shy and self- conscious and had not thrived in the bigger high school. He did well here and is now in community college. His mother told me at graduation that this school had saved him and in turn saved her as well. This is why I do what I do.

CIS HR has a major impact on our community and on our youth. The work they are doing every day in the schools and in the community is admirable and a neccessity! I support CISHR and hope they get the recognition they deserve!!!
One of the best drop out prevention organizations to be apart of.. We care, We track and we provide targeted services.
CISHR hired me four years ago and has really given me the opportunity of growth and development throughout the years. The impact we have on the school systems and the impact we have on students and families is a great feeling that allows me to comfortably sleep at night. There is no better feeling when waking up in the mornings and not feeling as though you are going to work, but you're doing something more powerful and meaningful not just for yourself but for your community.
