I was introduced to this organization through their "Good of All" web site. After reading through their mission statement: "...to promote civility and respect for freedom of conscience by challenging the voices in America that publicly erode civility and show contempt for the views of others..." I was intrigued by how this mission could be delivered. So I dug deeper into the background of the founder, Matt Daniels, and discovered this was the same man who started the non-profit Alliance for Marriage. Their mission statement was much more clear: to amend the United States Constitution to ban same-sex marriage. I find it incredibly ironic and hypocritical that Matt Daniels, a writing member of the constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage would form an organization to protect human rights. Something just doesn't add up.
I became aware of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights during my college years, in the mid-aughts. I was fascinated by it's powerful language and wide reach, but forgot about it until it came up in a discussion this past year.
I celebrate Matt Daniels and his team's work to raise awareness around the UDHR, and the quality content they produce on a regular basis. It's sad that advocacy for rare breeds of seals and endangered frogs often gets more attention. I have a feeling that the work Common Good/Good of All is currently producing will be valuable in coming years as people begin to feel the effects of their personal freedoms slipping away.
Finally, someone stands up for personal freedoms that matter.
I am so tired of the digital generation taking a stand for things that don't really matter. It seems like Mark Zuckerberg or someone of the like is always about rights, privacy, and freedoms without any basis for understanding.
Good of All protects human rights based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the UN in 1948. It is a critically important document that goes unnoticed, and I celebrate Good of All's efforts to remind the world (and the internet generation) that their rights come from somewhere other than their government.
These personal freedoms (especially privacy and conscience) are eroding. I am happy to see GOA's audience continue to grow, as they are doing important work that lays the groundwork for an entire generation to better understand where their rights come from and that they deserve protection.
Review from Guidestar
This organization is nothing more than a money processing scheme for the founder. A founder that has never succeeded at any of his grandiose endeavors. The traffic recently released in his latest e-mail is totally false. Mr. Daniels is using foundation funds and donor funds to operate a co-mingled entity called good of all and human liberty that by in large supports his salary and world travels. His practices and track record are loud and clear. Dig a little deeper into his past and the information he is reporting and none of it can be validated.
