Mission: The committee to support chinese lawyers ("the cscl") is a group of independent lawyers from outside china whose mission is to support lawyers in china in their quest to uphold the rule of law there. The cscl, which is housed at the leitner center for international law and justice at fordham law school in new york city, seeks to strengthen the role of lawyers and to promote their independence.
Programs: China rights lawyers projectthe committee to support chinese lawyers conducted field-based and legal research in support of an extensive report examining the situation of rights lawyers and legal activists in light of developments, negative and positive, that have taken place since the beginning of the 2011 crackdown. This reasearch included an assessment of government practices and targeted individuals identified in cscl's previous 2011 report, as well as in-depth analysis of the growing community of rights lawyers and legal activists entangled in the ongoing government crackdown.
