The Comics Appreciation Project has worked with our Annual Heroes Convention for a couple of years now. They are a wonderful group working to enrich the lives of foster children and children under medical care. They donate their time and money to making the world a better place for children from all situations and circumstances.
Using the world of comics as a way to engage children is both enriching, educational...and fun.
If you’re looking to support an impactful, local nonprofit look no further than the Comics Appreciation Project. This past year I was awarded a Youth Literacy Hero medal for supporting Jason and his work in our local community. What an honor it was to be recognized in such a meaningful way. Truth be told, Jason goes above and beyond to support kids through his passion for graphic novel storytelling. We all know what a difference reading can make in the lives of young people. Please checkout CAP and find a way that you to can make a difference.
I’ve known the director since high school and you’d be hard pressed to find someone more passionate about helping people and sharing his love of comics and graphic novels.
When CAP ran the comics creator classroom in my hometown, he sourced Spanish language Dogman books for the ESL students in class so they could read at home with their families.
CAP is going the extra mile everytime to make sure these underserved kids, no matter their background.
Continuing to support Comics Appreciation Project is an easy decision to make.

My first foray into comics is ver similar to Comics Appreciation Project founder Jason Kelley. It was an early issue of GI Joe Special Missions circa 1985. My dad was in the military so I naturally gravitated to the series and I was hooked from the very first page. I was already heavy read but comics added another deeper dimension to my love of reading. Fast forward to high school where Jason and I met and have been friends since. His love for comics is infectious an through him I was introduced to more titles, artists and genres. He was even part of my first exposure to comics as an industry.
When I learned that he had started a non-profit to promote the medium I was immediately in. The mission of CAP is perfect for time when people need heroes with deep and nuanced stories told in a way that resonates with kids and adults. Jason operates with a high level of integrity so becoming a donor to the organization was a no brainer.
Proud of work being done to help comfort children in crisis, and grow literacy and the arts!

As an educator, I have seen the importance of literacy intervention first hand. CAP consistently looks for new and innovative ways to partner with the community to put reading and art in front of students in ways that are both innovative and engaging. After following CAP's work for sometime with great interest, and supporting them as a donor, I was exited to join their board to play a more active role in shaping their work into the future. I cannot recommend them more highly.
In varied and unique ways, CAP does an excellent job promoting literacy and reaching children in need.
Comics Appreciation project is passionate about their mission, and we are honored to be part of this most deserving effort - supporting children in crisis. Jason is a pleasure to work with - empathetic, compassionate and dedicated to serving this community. We wholeheartedly stand behind what they do and will continue to do so every chance we get.

As an educator dedicated to fostering a love of reading in elementary-age students, I cannot say enough positive things about the Comics Appreciation Project. Matching children with books they truly enjoy is essential, and I have found that engaging boys in reading can sometimes be particularly challenging.
Last school year, Jason worked with my students over an extended period, introducing them to a diverse selection of graphic novels, books, and comics. His lessons were not only educational and engaging but also deeply captivating for these young learners. As a result, my students became more enthusiastic about reading and actively sought out more books.
Even a year later, those same students still ask, “Can Mr. Jason please come back and bring more comics?” His passion and approach truly inspired them, helping to cultivate a lasting love for reading. I am incredibly grateful for his impact and highly recommend the Comics Appreciation Project to any educator looking to spark excitement for reading in their students.
Jason reached out to me to donate books for the foster children in Houston County.
The donation was much appreciated for our children. We have lots that love to read and this was a very kind gesture.

Foster Village Charlotte loved working with Comics Appreciation Project to receive curated book boxes for children we serve experiencing foster care. They intentionally pursued mission alignment, and we loved sharing the high-quality, all-new, and popular books with our kiddos!
Jason is very passionate about his work with Comics Appreciation-that is very evident when you speak to him. We have been able to utilize the books with our foster children as Christmas and Birthday gifts, as well as for comfort when children enter care or have to move placements.
Meeting Jason and learning about his amazing non-profit, Comics Appreciation Project, was so inspiring! I love his enthusiasm for this project. It hits on so many levels. Literacy, meeting marginalized kids in a genre that is exciting, entertaining, and comforting, building their confidence, and inspiring their love of reading.
Comics Appreciation Project is a wonderful resource for those just learning and exploring the world of graphic novels, comics, and Manga. I look forward to Jason's continued work with this project.

Thanks Jason Kelley for your vision to provide children in foster care with books they can relate to. Foster children of Northeast Georgia have benefitted from the comic books. They are relatable and entertaining. The foster care system appreciates your donations and look forward to future reads. Thanks again for all you do.
I have known Jason for several years, and I am excited to See where the Comics Appreciation Project will go!
Jason and the team’s willingness to cultivate and mentor values like creativity and leadership are inspiring.
The values of giving back and inspiring the next generation is more of what we need in the world today.
I definitely enjoyed working with Jason on media before and plan to continue on supporting this organization.
Hats off to The Comics Appreciation Project!
Comics Appreciation Project does a fabulous job of reaching out and supporting middle grade aged kids who may be undergoing trauma. They have done great outreach programs in our area and are so helpful to a diverse group of kids, many of whom are ESOL, and in need of encouragement in literacy and LIFE.
Comics appreciation project is an amazing program being lead by some wonderful people. Can’t say enough good things about this organization.
Awesome people, awesome service, awesome experience! I would definitely recommend them! My kids received some comics and really enjoyed them. Now I find them reading every chance they get
Comics Appreciation Project is a unique non-profit with a clear mission, capable and respectable leadership, and a foundation of good stewardship. Proud to be an early supporter of this non-profit, and excited to see how it continues to grow with time. A true passion for comics and for kids is at the heart of CAP, and with that, they can’t go wrong.
Fantastic mission doing amazing work. We are proud to support the Comics Appreciation Project and can’t wait to see what the future brings!
I have known Jason Kelley for many years, and one word describes him best; dedicated. Jason is dedicated to expanding the love of comics and showing the world that they are an amazing medium to get fantastic narratives told. Not only is Jason dedicated to advancing awareness of comics, but he is also dedicated to easing the burdens of others in their times of crisis. This is exactly want the Comics Appreciation Project does. It provides a safe escape for children in crisis to read stories about heroes saving the day. I am a proud supporter of this endeavor, and know that as long as Jason, and the Comics Appreciation Project is around at least some children will not feel forgotten in their time of need.
I have worked in comics retailing for approaching thirty years and I’ve read comics for over five decades. In that time, I have come across a myriad number of comic professionals and knowledgeable individuals within the industry and the various fandoms attached to it. If I had to pick just one of these countless souls (living or dead) to have a conversation with or give me a recommendation about comics it would be- without hesitation- Jason H. Kelley of the Comics Appreciation Project. Please note that includes multiple Eisner winners, industry legends such as Julie Schwartz, and many others that have devoted their lives to the medium. I say so without a shred of hyperbole.
I have been honored to know Mr. Kelley for over thirty years. While our association began as him working in my comic book store, it has grown from those humble origins to a lasting friendship than means more to me than any comic that I have ever read. He is knowledgeable to a degree of ridiculousness and his opinion on comics is one that I can count on time and time again. I can’t think of a single comic that he’s suggested that I didn’t that something away from. In my professional life, I’ve been asked to lend a hand at many projects over the years but none that I take such a personal interest in. I know that every dime I’ve donated and ever moment I will spend in promoting the Comics Appreciation Project is a very valid thing indeed.

I have known Jason Kelley for almost 30 years. We met through comics. Jason was working at a local comic shop and I was a customer. He has always been passionate about comics but even more about helping others. Through CAP he is able to combine both while inspiring others to do the same. I am proud to have donated to CAP and I am sure anyone else that donates will feel the same.
Over the past +15 years of knowing Jason Kelley he has exemplified exactly what it means to lead by example through fellowship. Having put together and run numerous community social groups from sports leagues to religious studies, he has helped grow and enhance the lives of hundreds and maybe even thousands of men and women young and old. Comics Appreciation Project is another example of Jason’s love for sharing his passions with others for the betterment of his community.
Comics Appreciation Project is a worthy endeavor to especially reach children in stressful situations. The cultivation for the enjoyment found in reading also has long term rewards. It also improves necessary reading skills and imagination.
I remember taking my son each week to a comic book store. That was our special time to share an adventure. His excitement of getting a comic and sharing the story with me brings precious memories. As an English teacher I was thrilled to see the enjoyment of reading grow in my son.
I am so proud of my son, Jason Kelley, recognizing a need in children in various crisis situations and then providing a tool which offers some positive help on several levels.
I highly recommend Comics Appreciation Project.
Having read comics consistently for 30+ years it's no wonder that I've connected with and donated to the Comics Appreciation Project (CAP). What I love the most about CAP is that it fosters a love of comic books among young at risk youth. It introduces them into a fun, creative and positive world that many of us have come to enjoy over the course of our lives. I have found the director/senior contributor, Jason Kelley, to be knowledgeable, intelligent, passionate and personable in his quest to raise awareness and appreciation for the medium that is comic books. As a donor, transparency is very important to me. I like to know where my money is going and what it is doing. CAP does a fantastic job of lets us know what their goals are, which books are being purchased and where/who they are being donated to. Their honesty and integrity coupled with their love for one of my life long hobbies is why I will continue to support the Comics Appreciation Project. Please look them up and check them out when you have a minute. It'll be time well spent.
My earliest foray into reading was through the pages of a lone Batman comic I found tucked away in the shelves of my school library. It sparked an imagination and love of reading that continues to this day and brought untold joy to a young lonely kid going through some very tough times. It's why I believe in the mission of the Comics Appreciation Project to bring that same life changing opportunity to others and I can think of no one more suited to lead that mission that the nonprofits founder, Jason Kelley.
