My daughters lost their father to cancer when they were very young. Comfort Zone Camp has been instrumental in their recovery and growth. Their passion for this continues into their adult lives, as they both volunteer for multiple camps a year as Big Buddies. If you know anyone who has a child 7 and older, young adult who is struggling to find healthy grieving tools for their recovery, or parents who don't know where to turn for grief assistance, reach out to Comfort Zone!
Comfort Zone Camp is the largest bereavement camp and is run solely on donations. Comfort Zone Camp is for kids who have lost a parent or sibling or other close family member. This camp gives kids a safe place to grieve and share their stories and heal. There is no cost to the children or their families and the children can return year after year to continue the healing process. The camp is run by volunteers and includes games and counseling sessions. Each child is paired up with a volunteer Big Buddy and receives one on one attention for the entire weekend. I have volunteered at this camp several times and was amazed at how much a child can heal and grow in just 3 days. They are able to process their loss and become a strength to each other. Just knowing that they are not alone is a big help to these kids. As a volunteer, I feel I received more than I tried to give. It is a very rewarding experience and has changed my perspective on many things in my life.
