Mission: Columbus specialty hospital, inc. Is a 50 bed long-term acute care hospital, which provides specialized extended acute care services to patients needing 25 or more days of hospitalization.
Programs: Columbus specialty hospital provides acute care to long-term patients that require special needs. Services are provided by a diverse team of health care professionals, as discussed in detail below. For 2010, it provided $90,537 of free charity care and bad debt, $140,000 of contributions to georgia medicaid and $3,600 of support for cancer society. It also provided a total of 10,213 days of care. Columbus specialty hospital clinical programs are served by an interdisciplinary team of highly trained staff and physicians. The team continuously monitors goals, tracks clinical outcomes and remains current on the best clinical practices to incorporate into each program. The interdisciplinary team meets weekly to re-evaluate care and set new goals intended to challenge each patient for a higher level of recovery. Families and patients are an integral part of the team and are encouraged to remain actively involved in the patient's treatment plan. Our goal is to return each patient to his or her optimal level of functioning and health. Columbus specialty hospital offers the following services:physical therapy occupational therapy case management speech therapy ventilator weaning central line management - picc lines antibiotic therapy telemetry acls trained rn's/respiratory therapy staff nutritional assessment and support medically complex and wound care programs:the medically complex and wound care programs are designed to provide a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach of care for patients who have sustained a recent onset of illness or injury that requires an extended period of long-term acute care services. We want to help each patient reach his or her optimal level of health and independence by the most efficient care possible. Medically complex conditions include multi-system organ failure, neurovascular disease, cardiac related disorders, cardiac monitoring, neuromuscular care, chest trauma, mrsa/vre, post op complications, pre and post op transplant care, cva, certain cancer-related care, brain and spinal cord injury, iv therapies/tpn, central line management, pharmacological management, and low tolerance rehabilitation. Wound care services include complex wound care, wound care management, pain management, patient and family training and education, and oxygenation monitoring. Respiratory program:the goal of the respiratory program is to help each patient progress to his or her optimal level of health and independence by the most efficient care possible. This program includes the latest care in tracheotomy, decannulation, ventilator weaning and management as well as general respiratory care. We treat the following:respiratory failure copd pneumonia/ards chest trauma tracheostomy and respiratory needs multiple system organ failure neuromuscular disease interstitial pulmonary fibrosis kyphoscoliosis cancer sarcoidosis cystic fibrosis occupational/environmental lung pre & post-op lung reduction/transplant patients in this program are followed by a team of consulting physicians and the medical director is a board certified pulmonologist. Rn's are acls certified and a clinical specialist is also available for consultation. In addition the treatment team includes physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists, case managers, pharmacists and a dietician. Our goal is to help each patient progress to his or her optimal level of independence by the most efficient means possible.
