Mission: We are Colorado Wild Horse Foundation. We are a recognized and registered 501c3 Colorado Nonprofit Organization created strictly for wild horses and burros in the State of Colorado. Our goals are to ensure Wild Horses and Burros are able to live a safe protected life whether living free on the range, or in a domestic situation after losing their freedom after a roundup. We have immediate smaller plans to help horses that were removed from Sand Wash Basin (and other Colorado HMAs) in roundups this past year. We also plan to help Colorado Wild Horses that have found their way to unsafe or abusive homes, homes where their humans have fallen on hard times and need some help, or horses that have found their way into the horrific fate of a kill pen. We will work for the horses and burros so that they may live their best life possible. Our long term project is one of giant proportions in the way that it will help the Wild Horses (and Burros) in Colorado whether living free on the range or in Sanctuaries in Colorado. This project is currently being worked on, and because of the nature of the legal issues and legislation involved cannot be fully disclosed at this time. This project will be able to financially assist the Wild Horses and Burros in multifaceted ways by working with Sanctuaries, on range volunteer groups, the State of Colorado and even the BLM (as allowed/necessary), it may also impact individual animal lives greatly that have found homes not in Sanctuaries. We will push for legislation for harsher penalties for those that abuse/neglect Wild Horses and Burros or those that have unlawfully used them for personal financial gain. There is so much more to come and we are very excited at what the future holds for Colorado Wild Horses and Burros. Please stay close and follow along/participate with us as we work towards a safer place for our wild friends, they need all of our support! Thank you for your support as we embark on this long road ahead, we look forward to the journey and in changing equine lives for the better.
Results: Well it has been just over 6 months since Carole and I ( Michael ) started up Colorado Wild Horse Foundation. What have we been up to or done you may ask? Let me share some of the happenings. None of the following events could have happened without the community's support, so on behalf of those that have been helped so far, and in the future, THANK YOU! We were able to help a BLM Burro that was in a kill pen get safe and become reunited with it's bonded mate who was also in a kill pen but was saved prior to us contributing to help this little burro. She is now safe and with her friend. There was a Mustang at a sanctuary here in Colorado that had received a bad injury that required veterinary care, the bills were quite large, and because of our community of donors we were able to help pay the bill. The Mustang has recovered very well. We were able to contribute towards saving a couple Mustangs bound for the slaughterhouse, they now run free again in a pasture in Morrison Colorado. There was a beautiful Mustang at an auction that we tried to save before it went to a kill buyer. We had heard a private buyer had won the auction and we thought all was well. It was not as that same horse soon showed up in the kill pen. We were able to help with funds to help get this horse to a safe sanctuary. He was not in great health but he is now getting better. We have been able to buy grain and hay for wild horses for those that were struggling financially because of the economy or the Covid pandemic. We have made contributions to Harmony Equine to support the horses ( wild ) in their care. We have made repairs to a stable to make it more suitable and safer for Mustangs to be kept there. We contributed to "For the Love of Aria" fundraiser event. and attended the fundraiser. We contributed to the funds for saving the Little Book Cliffs mare that was in the kill pen. Later this week we will be receiving three mustangs that were dumped after their adopter received the titles and AIP money from the BLM. They surely would have been shipped to slaughter had they not been saved by others. Financial support for these three will be needed soon. Photos to come soon. We are planning to adopt out of holding three mares from SWB, (Hopscotch, Savannah and Streaker ) in order to keep their family band together. We have continuously been in contact with the BLM concerning them. Hopefully soon they will regain their freedom with us. We have a very small amount of money to work with, but are so grateful we have been able to do what we have in just 6 months. We feel so far we have been successful in our mission to help wild equines in Colorado. Our funds are now very low and there is still so much that needs to be done. If you would be willing and able to support our work that would be wonderful, we truly need you as part of our team. Nothing happens without you and your support. No amount is too small as it all adds up to help a wild horse in need. Wild Horses and Burros nee
