The Colombian Orchid Ballet is a fantastic group of people united to show the wonderful, cultural and artistic side of Colombia, as a dancer i feel bless to be part of it. It brought Colombia to Houston and it touches every heart.
I saw the Colombian Orchid Ballet performed in Oklahoma during the 10th Colombian Cultural Night and I was extremely pleased to see the level of professionalism, energy and passion each member projected! It was without a doubt the highlight of the night and I cannot wait to see them again! Congratulation for transmitting what Colombia is all about! People, love, energy!
Thank you Edwin for your comments. We are honored that you see the Colombian Orchid Ballet as a source of joy, love, energy and great souls! We also believe that we were very blessed to be part of an event like the Colombian Night, filled with amazing Colombians like you and all the COLSA members in Norman, Oklahoma! Looking forward to collaborate for Smile Colombia projects and events.
It was my exposure to the Colombian community in Houston that made me fall in love with the culture and the country itself (so much so that I have been living in Bogotá for almost a year now). I was priveledged to be able to attend various performances by these talented individuals and believe that they are a great ambassadors for their country.
Thank you Chantelle for your comments. We feel delighted to be seen as ambassadors of the Colombian Residents in Houston. We feel that it is a great responsibility to be leading the arts in Houston in terms of social causes, culture, education, and art. We take every single performance and project as a great opportunity to inspire people to do the same, to fin the art of giving back to their community!
Colombia faces many challenges as a country and as a society. Overcoming those challenges will not be an easy process. I admire Felipe and his organization for showing a different side of Colombia. He inspires Colombians and non colombians thru his performances and projects.
Thank you Andres for your kind words. We feel very happy that your vision of Colombia is a shared interest here in the Colombian Orchid Ballet. We will keep on working hard to inspire non Colombian and Colombian residents to join us to make those challenges become great accomplishments.
Great show, but most important the performers have big hearts and love our country!!!!
Thank you Patricia for your comments! We do love Colombia and like to inspire more souls, one heart at a time!
I love watching this dance troupe to their thing! Their energy and rhythm is contagious-- its not rare to see the audience dance up off their seats!
Thank you Saydee for your comment. We appreciate your time and presence at the performances, but what we enjoy the most is to make you feel like dancing every time we perform! You should join our crew, we all about good souls and great hearts that like to dance!
I watched the ballet perform recently a the Minuto de Dios charity dinner and was amazed by their performance. Not only is the group talented, they really do give back to the community. Houston is fortunate to be the home of the Colombian Orchid Ballet. Plus Colombians living in Houston appreciate the young talented dancers representing their home country.
Thank you Marisol for your kind words. We feel honored about the way you see the Colombian Orchid Ballet, we do strive to reach and educate the Colombian and non Colombian residents, so that through art we can inspire people to give back to the community!
In a word: Wonderful! The beauty of their presentation is only rivaled by their friendliness and professionalism.
In addition to providing our event with an excellent performance, the group truly created a cultural experience. Explanations on the origins and historical context of the dances and music were interesting and concise. They served to enhance our appreciation and pique our interest.
Thank you Priscilla for inviting us to your international festival at the Medical Center. We really enjoyed educating your audience about the Colombian culture, history and heritage! We look forward for your next event.
The Colombian Orchid Ballet did a great job at the University of Oklahoma's Colombian Student Association Cultural Night on March 12, 2011. The professionalism, passion and energy of the dancers and director helped celebrate the 10th anniversary of COLSA in Norman, OK. It was a magical night! These eight dancers volunteer their time, drove all the way from Houston and inspired the public.
Thank you Yoana for your comment. We were very honored by being part of the performing artist at COLSA's 10th anniversary event in Norman, Oklahoma. We felt very happy to move people's hearts through our performance, but more importantly to be able to share the stage with amazing people like you guys, who have dedicated themselves to promote the Colombian spirit for a decade. We look forward for your next event!
The Colombian Orchid Ballet performed at our annual Gala, Banquete del Millon Houston 2011 and exceeded my expectations. I was hoping for people to feel in contact with their country when they heard the music and saw the performance, but I found more than that. While their performance I saw people with tears of joy, transported to their country. Very professional. Very Colombian. Very giving.
Thank you Claudia for your comment. We are very happy to be able to participate in events like the Minuto de Dios, so we can inspire people not only Colombians, but any person to do something for their community. Bringing tears of joy to the audience is something that makes us believe that we were successful in our mission to make the people ride with us into a journey of joy and most importantly of going back to their home country and go back in time and feel home!
The Colombian Orchid Ballet has given me the opportunity to embrace the Colombian culture, and to show the art and the beauty of dance. Not only have we preformed to teach other, but also for a greater cause such as a fundraiser to help the people from Chile after the earthquake. The great combination of art and the sharing of knowledge with others has really inspired me to keep dancing and leaning more about my the culture of Colombia.
Thank you Boris for participating in the Colombian Orchid Ballet helping our South American brothers from Chile after the earthquake. We also believe that it is great to experience the art of sharing knowledge and team work for good causes!
The first time I heard of the ballet was when my cousin told me about it. She had been dancing with them for a couple months so I decided to try out. My first day in the practice I felt kind of nervous but Felipe broke the ice and made me feel much comfortable. That fist day I understood the real meaning of the dances, it's not only about doing a performance, it's about transferring a felling, a history, a culture to the public through the dances. I love to learn about cultures and the ballet has definitely introduced me to all this different cultures. Being in the ballet has being a great experience because I can express myself and radiate happiness, passion and culture though dancing. When I see Dalila, Felipe, Boris, Meli, and the other members I feel inspired because they seem like they are having so much fun and seem so professional that I wish one day I can have the techniques they have. I have been learning not only how to dance but how to unify the world as one through culture. Being part of this organization has changed my life because I can use my body as an instrument of art and I can allow my spirit to flow in a stage. Every Wednesday I'm so excited because I get to come here and dance, dance, dance. This group is now a big part of my life, specially Felipe and Dalila because more than teachers they are now like family and I'm always glad to represent my family. I have grown as a person by heart, mind and spirit and I am a witness of the hard work all the members put in the ballet. They all do a great job and I am sure that little by little we will grow and spread multiculturalism trough out the whole world.
Thank you Silvana for your comment. We are thrilled about the way you feel about performing with the Colombian Orchid Ballet. We also share the same vision about how important is to unify cultures through art!
Recently, I joined the Colombian Orchid Ballet. It's been a great experience, and it's only the beginning! The fact that each of the members of the Ballet is so wonderful and friendly makes everything even better. I enjoy being in everyone's company, and being around them inspires me to become a better person. They're almost like role models to me. I think it's important that every young girl has someone to look up to, and I have that now thanks to the Ballet. Every Monday and Wednesday I have something that I enjoy doing to look forward to... dance practice! Not only does this make the start of my week less painful, i've learned so much about my culture and where I come from. What I really love is that with this group, we aren't just
Thank you Karla for your kind words. We are very happy to hear that you enjoy coming to practice, we also enjoy teaching souls like you, how dancing can make a difference in somebody's life. We are also happy that you have learned things about your home country, culture and heritage!
I met the director Felipe Acosta through Facebook. He and I had a mutual FB Friend and Felipe had seen my photos and liked them. To be honest, I had not really even looked at Felipe's FB profile, so I didn't even know what he did. I always wondered, though, at the photos that he would post on Facebook of him surrounded by these beautiful women ;-) So one day, Felipe opened up a FB chat session and asked if he could meet and talk to me about my photography. That is when he told me about the Colombian Orchid Ballet. Ever the photographer, I almost immediately thought about the great photos that I take of this dance troupe. So I said yes, I definitely wanted to meet him. We met at the Catalina Coffee House in Houston. Felipe brought along his beautiful girlfriend and fellow dancer Dalila Melo. They both told me more about what they did, what the dance group was about, and what they hoped to bring to the public from their organization. Felipe asked me if I would be willing to take some photos of them during a performance, and I told him I would love to do that. Their mission to bring pride, self esteem, beauty, and to educate the people about Colombian culture is one that I admire greatly; I felt quite honored to be asked to be a part of this family. So now, in the past two months, I have taken photos of their performances. They are wonderful! The women are beautiful, the men are handsome, the musicians are fun to listen to. Felipe has a loyal cadre of talented people working behind the scenes (sound technicians, videographer, publicist, photographers) to make the Colombian Orchid Ballet successful. I enjoy watching and photographing this group not only because of their dance talent, but also because of their obvious joy of the dance and zest for life. They impart great energy to each performance and you can see they have alot of fun. That, in turn, means the audience has fun and gets a great deal of enjoyment from this group's performance. And, the audience learns as well. I know *I* have definitely learned alot about the dances, the culture, and the dancers just in the short amount of time I have known them. I very much look forward to continuing my relationship with the Colombian Orchid Ballet and their worthwhile goals.
Thank you Rebecca for your kind words. We believe that having a talented photographer like you taking pictures of us is an honor, and a great responsibility, because we believe that you tell stories through your art of taking pictures. The stories we want the world to know are based on the hope that our audience will always have a great quality of a show, but also a great message to go and talk to their friends and family about Colombia. We are very pleased with your presence, dedication, and input, on stage and behind the curtains, but also we are very happy to know you have also learned a lot about the Colombian culture. Thank you!
The Colombian Orchid Ballet has made me grow as a person and explote my talent. I also believe that through the culture, music, and folkloric dance I keep learning about life. I also strive to be a role model for my peers and the community as being part of this organization. I have learned about my heritage and now Im able to speak about my home country, Colombia!
Thank you Melisa for your kind words. We are very please that you have been able to become a better person through the Colombian Orchid Ballet's projects and performances. Learning about your culture and heritage will allow you have a better understanding in order to do projects for Colombia!
Its been a very good experience for me, a different experience. Not only because of the people involved but because of the cultural impact that it has created on me. The way I see planet Earth has changed, I not only see the outside of it, but the inside of what it is. The Ballet has shown me great things and it has also shown me how to become a better person. It has shown me the importance of heritage and how important it is to preserve it because it shows you how to become a better soul. All of this experiences have made me a better performer!
Thank you Frida for you kind words. We believe that cultural awareness is a very important aspect in individuals, we are very pleased to hear you have acknowledged that aspect as a part of your experience with the Colombian Orchid Ballet. A performer is a person that is so well rounded and responsible, that is able to represent a culture through his/ her art of telling stories to inspire people to become better.
I consider myself someone who only plays with the A+ players and my friends and the activities that I practice are always very well selected by my own criteria. I follow leaders to become one and to learn from them. I see when a project has potential and when it has future and I support it with my entire hearth. Therefore, I joined the Colombian Orchid Ballet family because all of those milestones I set for my life are met by each and every single one of the members of this organization. We can share knowledge, experiences, and many other things, and at the end of the day we are always one only big Colombian family that has the same objective: to bring joy and culture to our community. I have learned that team work is essential for anyone’s life and that when one of us is out of place, the rest of the group feels it. However, we are working hard every time and every presentation to make sure that we deliver the best of the shows and not only the performers on the stage are worried about this, but us the ones that are part of the logistics and staff. I care for my country, I care for my family and friends, and I care for our Colombian Orchid Ballet!! Go Orchids.
Thank you Francisco for your kind words, we also believe that what we are doing here is to foster leadership in order to encourage more people to understand the power of working together for the benefit of the community! Thank you for your enormous support!
I had a dream one day, I thought I could find a way to inspire people to be good and believe in good causes. After creating the Colombian Orchid Ballet and having the opportunity of touching souls, like in Operation Smile and From Houston to Chile, I get to understand that there are lots of souls that appreciate and follow good causes. Its no longer a dream, its happening, Go Orchid!
