Sybil Erden and her Cochise Canine Rescue save animals that most other rescues would not even touch, given the probably need of extreme medical care, expensive medical care. But not Sybil! All animal life is of upmost importance to her, and the cost of their care is not a factor in her mission to save animals. We fostered for CCR a Chihuahua that had been attacked by a coyote in the desert, discovered by a hiker and taken to the local vet clinic. When Sybil Erden was called, her response was "save him," and thus began Wyley's road to recovery! When he was through with his surgeries and healing well enough to go into foster care, my husband and I stepped up to the plate. That "little boy" turned out to be one of the very best fosters we ever had, and he was adopted by a wonderful family who, to this day, send us photos of the little guy in action! All............thanks to Sybil Erden and CCR!! We love her philosophy and the way she treats all of God's creatures.
To Whom It May Concern,
I have worked with many rescues in the Arizona area, but Cochise Canine Rescue is one of my top five favorites. I have known Sybil Erden for years now professionally, and she takes the utmost care of all the animals that are lucky enough to cross her doors going above and beyond the call of duty. She treats each on of her rescues with the compassion and respect these four leggeds deserve, and her rescue is one of the few that operates not only on integrity, but also takes care of each and every one of her rescues as if they are her own never neglecting them, always having them come first, many times above her own needs. She not only takes care of those that are in her rescue, but the countless other animals in need of a safe haven constantly networking them with others such as myself, to help ensure a new home to save as many as she can.
Sybil has been at this for a long time, and is no stranger to hard work and getting the job done. Her and Jeff have dedicated themselves to the rescue of those in need, not stopping just at dogs and cats. She has been known to help livestock as well who have had no place to go making sure their surroundings were safe, and when times have called for, making sure not one of her animals ever feels alone. I have not met a more dedicated rescue, not saying others are not, I am just saying she has dedicated her life to this work and it shows.

I know I already reviewed CCR, but that was back in 2015. Sometimes you need to renew your vows to something, your dedication to something or someone, to not only bring attention back to it, but to solidify how strongly you feel about something worthy enough to share with others. I can't say enough about CCR and the two that run this rescue, Sybil and Jeff.
When you open your door to rescue animals, it doesn't just stop there - one opens their hearts, and leaves their egos at the door. One gives up what most people take for granted. Your time is not your time anymore. You are devoted to those animals who have no other place to go giving them a renewed sense of worth and love that they either have lacked, or were pushed aside because their owners didn't care anymore or ever did - some left at trash cans, abused for sport, others just abandoned in the desert to die, and for the lucky ones, if you can call it that, left at the shelter shaking, scared, confused, missing the owners they will never see again.
Rescues like CCR go above and beyond the call of duty. They love each and every dog as if they are the only dog on the planet. If you are considering donating to a rescue, I would HIGHLY SUGGEST you consider CCR, and if you can, go on their monthly donation schedule. I have been working with CCR for years. I have come to know Sybil and Jeff personally. They have dedicated their lives to the rescue of animals, and it's not very often they will turn one in need away. That is why your donation is so important. All the money goes to the care of these animals. They not only give them the love and medical care they need, but they also make sure each and every home their rescues go to are well vetted. They take the time to do background and home checks to ensure their animals are going to a viable, loving home.
One of the best non-profits in the state if you ask me because they have integrity. I can say that as I have fostered for CCR for years. I can't say that about all rescues, but I can certainly say that about CCR.
Pictured below are my 7 in sanctuary due to either medical or behavioral issues that are not adoptable. Not including the 4 cats I have that had no place to go. Aside from those pictured, I have fostered animals that have come and gone throughout the years - through the help of CCR. I have been involved in rescue for years now and just when you think you have seen it all, you haven't. Rescue work can be extremely heartbreaking, but holds so many rewards! Nothing better than looking into the eyes of an animal after the animal realizes he/she's been rescued. No words. It's god felt!
Consider a donation today. It will be money well spent. God Bless!
My name is Johnnie Molina and I've been a supporter of CCR for over 5 years now. While I also donate to other animal charities, the bulk of my support goes to them. Why ? It's simple, they are very "hands on" in their work saving and assisting animals in need. Sybil and Jeff have dedicated their lives to this effort.
I'm retired and now enjoy performing as a "Classic Rock" musician both with a band and also as a solo acoustic guitar performer. I've worked with Sybil in setting up benefit performances benefiting CCR over the last few years. She is a pleasure to work with and it's obvious that her work with these animals is her passion. I donate 20% of my pay from my solo performances along with 100% of the contents in my tip jar at the end of each gig. I'm happy to do it. It's my way of giving back. I'm very comfortable knowing that Sybil will put the money to good use for these animals.
God bless these people!
Cochise Canine Rescue is a wonderful animal rescue organization. I donate on a monthly basis and also give a portion of my music income (I'm a musician) to them. I've visited their facility (home). They are a "hands on" group that take in hurt and sick animals and provide care and love. I'm not a wealthy person but I'm comfortable and confident that my donations are going directly towards the care of these animals. Sybil and Jeff (owners) have dedicated
their lives to this effort. Thank God for people like this...
I have known Sybil Erden, founder and director of Cochise Canine Rescue, for about 8 or so years through my donating and through my small involvement with animal rescue. I had the privilege of meeting her for the first time in January of '18, when she brought two of her rescues to a vet in north Scottsdale. Sybil had gotten up in the morning at 3AM and had driven 4 hours to get to the vet. there are vets much closer but she brought her dogs, one who needed surgery, the other who was not a candidate for surgery although she needed it badly, to the best vet she knew of. And then that same day she drove 4 hours home. If one of the dogs had needed to stay over night, she would have gone home and returned the next day.
Sybil is dedicated, compassionate, and committed. She has basically devoted her life to these rescued animals. She has saved dogs from being euthanized that other rescues might never consider, and has either brought them back to health or has allowed them to live out their final days in an environment of love and comfort.
There are not enough words to fully explain the excellence of CCR. Whatever good is said about it, there is more to be said. If I were a dog on the e-list, let me be saved by Sybil Erden of CCR! Meg Singer
Cochise Canine Rescue really cares about the animals. They take so much time, money and effort for each and every rescue animal. They want to make sure each rescue is taken care of and placed in a proper home. They take extra steps to ensure that happens. They are a wonderful rescue group as I know myself from getting my own rescue dog from them. They want the best for all of the animals and they deserve the best!
I have followed Cochise Canine Rescue for close to a decade. I have donated (never as much as I would like to do) to support their good work. Sybil and Jeff do so much to save lives. They are a great nonprofit organization, definitely making our world a better place.
I’m writing on behalf of Cochise Canine Rescue, an animal sanctuary in Benson, Arizona, that provides lifetime care for special needs dogs who are unadoptable, abused, abandoned, elderly, ill, injured, disabled, or neglected, and temporary care for some who are adoptable. The American Sanctuary Association is an accrediting organization that certifies member sanctuaries to be in compliance with a variety of animal care standards and housing requirements. Besides a detailed application process, we visit all sanctuaries to assure that their facilities and animal care routines meet our guidelines. In addition, member sanctuaries are not permitted to breed, sell or trade animals, or use them for commercial purposes. Cochise has been an accredited member of ASA since May, 2015.
I have also known the Cochise director and founder Sybil Erden since 1997. She is a dedicated animal advocate, and her knowledge of how to care for a wide range of animal species is extensive. ASA’s site visit found Cochise to have suitable living space, high quality nutrition, and all the animals in her care receive daily personal attention from her, the staff and volunteers. Cochise also uses several veterinarians who care for the medical needs of the animals who have a challenged medical history.
ASA enthusiastically endorses and recommends Cochise Canine Rescue for support from foundations and individuals.

Cochise Canine Rescue has been a PACC911 partner for many years. As a rescue, they are top notch giving love and special care to the many medical animals they take on. These are the animals often on the euthaniasia lists in terrible shape, thus left behind, and not wanted by many other rescues. They are healed, loved and placed into wonderful homes by CCR... even my own..
Because CCR is located in Pinal County, Sybil has become a watch dog for any medical cases at Pinal county Shelter calling attention to those animals needing to be saved. Her efforts result in alerting 100 PACC911 partners to the animals needing help, and they often reach out !
While PACC911 only works with domestic animals, we love the fact that farm animals are also given sanctuary by this amazing compassionate rescue.. We love CCR!
PACC911, a non profit 501c3 umbrella organization, has 100 partner groups known as PACC911 partners, who we work with. These organizations must sign a code of ethics to remain a part of PACC911 each year, and must display professionalism in all walks of the rescue journey.. displaying exceptional care of the animals in their charge and showing respect and courtesy to all the public, including those they adopt to and those they might decline.
Cochise Canine Rescue has been a PACC911 partner in good standing for years and we are proud to have them as part of our PACC911 family.
CCC has taken in many animals with serious medical conditions and always has taken the extra step to see that they heal and thrive.. ending up in wonderful new homes, or in some cases living out there lives at the CCR Sanctuary where they are loved and accepted as family.
Nestled in the little town of Cascabel, AZ is a little bit of heaven for dogs in desperate need of being saved. Sybil Erden and Jeff Gold work day and night to care for the less fortunate animals that folks don’t usually come to adopt from shelters, dogs left to die by owners, dogs needing medical care that exceeds what folks can afford or want to spend, some in need of hospice care and others with limbs the needed to be amputated, some so destroyed emotionally that they need to learn to love and trust again.
This is the Cochise Canine Rescue. This is true sanctuary for those who need it most and many of whom will live out their lives in a loving, caring and safe environment. Some will find new homes, but for many no one will come calling. Jeff and Sybil work tirelessly to make these dogs well, welcome and loved and cared for, every one of them.
I met Sybil when she was bringing the dream of a parrot sanctuary to reality, an amazing feat that only determination and selfless hard work could accomplish. I have found knowing her and watching her selfless efforts on the behalf of all living animals to be one of the most important friendships I have ever had. She and Jeff are tireless workers and never give up in their effort to take in the dogs that other rescues leave behind. It is not unusual to find a few other critters; cattle, sheep, donkeys etc. under their care.
The Cochise Canine Rescue (CCR) is exemplary in their dedication, professionalism and caring, life support for those unwanted, suffering, in need of medical care and hospice.
Cochise Canine Rescue continues to grow and surpass our initial expectations. The number of senior and "special needs" animals we are able to help has grown annually. We want to thank our volunteers, foster homes and donors for the ability to help the animals in our program!
Cochise Canine Rescue specializes in taking in senior and handicapped animals, although we do have dogs available for adoption form time to time, primarily injured dogs who are now healthy. CCR takes in the animals who have run out of time and are facing immediate death due to being on a euthanasia list at a regional animal control facility.
We do what very few other rescues do and provide love and safety for these wonderful animals.
The rescue team at CCC is top notch. They work tirelessly to save so many, especially those animals who need the most attention. I like that they are proactive too with respect to having emergency evacuation plans, and equipment, in place just in case of wildfire or other disaster. Thank you for being there for the animals, CCC!
I have been involved in dog rescue in AZ for about 7 years and became familiar with this rescue, CCR about 4 years ago. The one thing I know for sure about CCR, is that they consistently go the extra mile to help some of the worst cases of animal neglect I have seen. They show unwavering compassion for dogs who are blind, need amputations, have chronic diseases and the like. They are true heroes for so many who have suffered. Thank you to CCR.
I have been a fur mom since I rescued pure black Labrador on 911 - at 1:10pm he would have been the 18th animal ‘put down’ that day. He was a pure Black Labrador - 9 months old, ‘put out’ ( and to fend on his own) in Durham, NC
I had just lost my beagle who passed st 14.
Fast forward 20 yrs and I’m the blessed mom of two: Leisel and Lucy. I was relocated to Cochise County for work - 4 yrs ago.
I have followed Cochise Canine Rescue since arriving in Sierra Vista. They are caring and selfless folks who give of themselves and their personal resources before, giving to themselves.
I just want to give a big shout out to Sybil and Jeff and the numerous helpers for all they do. Truly, God’s unsung furry Heroes!
God Bless you both and Bless all your efforts for the animals in your care for, or future care!
CCR combines passion with know how, zeal with tested experience, and is highly deserving of support. No funds are wasted by this nonprofit, and dollars are stretched for the benefit and health and well-being of the dogs, and the occasional other species in need. It is the small rescues/sanctuaries which are well run, as this one is, that make a heroic difference for animals in need, though the large organizations play a vital role as well. What matters is how wisely donations are used and the expertise and knowledge of all involved. No hesitation in recommending Cochise Canine Rescue to potential donors.
Cochise Canine Rescue is a dedicated rescue organization that goes far beyond expectations to care for and place dogs in need. Sybil and Jeff give 110% in their efforts to make the lives of abandoned dogs and other animals better.
The staff is very committed, dedicated and caring.
Sybil and her husband do amazing things for animals in desperate need. It has been a pleasure to partner with them!
Sybil is fully committed to the rescue of animals and works tirelessly in that capacity.
I have been a pet sitter for many years now and I know the care it takes just to board a pet.
But being in the rescue area of pets is an extreme and deeply hearted loyal position. Only certain people have what it takes to really rescue and care for unwanted pets. When I learned about Cochise Canine Rescue I was so impressed of the dedication and hard work regardless of what it took, their dedication is beyond words. Pets are rescued and nurtured and truly cared for. This is a place that should be recognized for such heartful actions.
They deserve all the best recognition and help to continue with their dedicated service to the loving creatures that need it so bad.
with all my love
Brendas Pet Bed and Breakfast -
Sybil answered the phone at 11:30 at night to help me save a dog and she got the dog pulled off the euthenasia list and I sent a friend of mine to get the dog. The dog's write up didn't match his behavior when the foster got him home but it had a happy ending as she ended up adopting the dog and keeping him for her own. Sybil made it happen and this is how she does things one dog, one animal at a time, she gets out of bed, does what needs to be done no matter what the hour then she tracks to the dog to be certain it is safe and loved and sent me to do the house check. My friend has a mini ranch with parrots and dogs and turtles and the dog needed training but the foster/adopter adores him. Sybil was involved every step of the way and without her guidance and caring heart this dog and many others would never get the opportunity to have a life. She is a committed rescuer and she puts the animals needs before her own. She never takes a bow but she does run a tight ship! The rescuer/foster got her up early the next morning and I had her up half the night for yep, you got it, a dog, a dog who deserved a chance. Thanks Sybil for all you continue to do and the miracles you continue to create and thanks to Jeff too!!!
Sandra Barrett a member of the Rescue community for 10 years
I met Sybil online when she had this dream of a parrot sanctuary and traveled to Phoenix to check her and the dream out. What I found was remarkable, a caring, loving home dedicated to throw away parrots and a myriad of animals who had found heaven and a woman completely giving all she had to these creatures. I became involved with her effort almost immediately taking over her database and building it up over many years. I followed her to The Oasis Sanctuary in Cascabel, AZ continuing working from home as the Sanctuary grew to be one if not THE most incredible place on earth for parrots who there found a permanent forever, safe and loving environment, thanks to Sybil's incredible talent, creativity and sensitivity.
Sybil, reaching her goal moved on to create CCR with her gentle, loving partner and husband, Jeff, bringing in from the beginning, dogs that had reached the deadline for survival. She took in what others defined as "hopeless" dogs and rehabbed them, placing those that could be placed and making a wonderful home and environment for those who would be difficult if not impossible to adopt out to forever homes. As she did at The Oasis, she also made a home for other animals with no choices. She will go without if an animal is in need and will work to exhaustion to make sure all of the animals never go without medical care, emotional care and all necessary care in order to save them and give them a home and what they need. She is known nationwide and respected and loved by those of us who know the importance of caring for these lives of those in need. Jeff is a loving, calm and caring individual who adores the animals and makes CCR, along with Sybil, a "real" important rescue. The two of them take the dogs no one else wants and gives them the love and nurturing, care and most of all gives them their lives back.
The founders of this non-profit CARE more than anyone I know about all living things. They work tirelessly to save those that need it most (a blind dog, a dog with 3 legs ... the least adoptable that are unlikely to live if not for the care of this organization). They will do whatever possible to get these dogs adopted in to loving homes and get them any medical care that they need. If the dogs are not adopted, they provide sanctuary for life. I could not speak more highly about the founders and this organization. Angels among us.
