To date, I have only had facebook contact with this small group. They post the most enjoyable pictures and stories! I donate to them via Goodsearch and via PayPal when I can, knowing that I may someday need their help or expertise. Their compassion and care for native wild creatures has captured my heart.
When my organization was looking for a wildlife rehabilitation charity to donate to, I found Coast & Canyon Wildlife. I called at 9:30pm, assuming I would just get an answering machine but instead Marcia, the founder of the organization, picked up the phone. I would later learn that this is common – she always answers late into the night in case there’s an animal in need.
I soon learned that Coast & Canyon is basically made up of the licensed rehab facility Marcia operates from her home and a number of other rehabbers throughout the Los Angeles area. They help orphaned and injured squirrels, possums, skunks and other animals – last year saving over 1000 animals. The majority of their work is baby squirrels who are orphaned as a result of tree trimming, accidents or storms.
I visited Coast & Canyon and saw for myself how many animals they help – most of which would be put down by local shelters if Marcia and her volunteer rehabbers didn’t go pick them up and care for them until their eventual release back into the wild.
We made our initial donation to Coast & Canyon and I’ve continued to donate to them regularly. I’ve seen in person just how far even the smallest donation goes toward saving the lives of so many animals.
