Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization providing support for the homeless animals in our area, including animals at county-run kill facilities, thus increasing their chances for adoption and/or rescue. This support may include but is not limited to medical expenses, preventive veterinary care, adoption events, beds, blankets, food drives, vaccines, any and all needs for the welfare of these animals. We also rescue animals from said shelters, as well as those surrendered by individuals. Using social media, we network the animals for exposure and to help raise funds for their well being. We also do several fundraisers throughout the year to support this cause. In addition, we help people in our community by providing education and assistance to those unable to afford food, veterinary care (including spay/neuter), and any other needs their animals may have.

Clifford’s Army Rescue, CARE, goes above and beyond for our community and for all the abused, neglected, homeless and discarded animals. I got involved with CARE a couple of years ago. I volunteer and I foster dogs in need and the need continues to grow in our community. Deb Hardin steps up every time she hears of an animal that needs help. I have witnessed so many miraculous stories of rehabilitation and recovery for so many dogs (and cats) rescued from horrendous situations. They all have their own story of abuse and neglect but thanks to CARE they are given a second chance in life. A chance to heal, recover and thrive! It is so rewarding to take in a dog in need and with a little TLC watch him/her transform into a happy healthy and adoptable pup! I have fostered several dogs and each one brings joy to my home and a sense of pride and satisfaction when they find their forever home! I am grateful to CARE for their compassion and commitment to those with no voice.

We were looking to add a member to the family after loosing our girl the previous year. Clifford’s Army Rescue helped us in finding the perfect girl for our family. I LOVED how diligently they were in the screening process. It breaks my heart when ppl adopt and they don’t understand what they’re getting into and it only hurts the pups. But this Rescue makes sure to help reduce complications with placements. You can tell they truly love these fur babies and are willing to do whatever it takes to make sure they’re safe and going to the right home. I also loved that with our girl being in a foster placement before getting her she was already crate trained and mostly house trained which was incredible helpful and provided her with structure and security in a new environment.

We found Luther on petfinder.com and contacted C.A.R.E. They very helpful and since they were 2 hours away they arranged to someone more local come do a home visit.
Then we drove to meet Luther. He had been abandoned at the Walmart parking lot at 2 months old. He was well taken care of by Clifford’s and foster. He is learning trust and is a shy but playful energetic boy. We had DNA testing and he is 15 breeds . 20 percent chihuahua 20 percent redbone coonhound and smaller percentages of 13 other dogs. thanks Clifford’s!

C.A.R.E. is an army of dedicated, loving and highly skilled volunteers that work 24/7 to rescue and care for those with no voice. We adopted Khobe from C.A.R.E. in 2020 after they rescued him from euthanasia. They provided him with all the medical and emotional help he needed and loved him back to health after wondering if he was going to live after the neglect he endured.

A group of the most passionate and caring volunteers trying to make a difference in the lives of those with no voice. With the belief that all lives matter, this rescue takes in some of the ones that many others pass by. From feral, frightened, abused, neglected, injured, sick and abandoned, all are welcome with Cliffords Army.
Pictured is Baxter who was struck by a vehicle, grabbed up off the highway by a good Samarian who he bit due to the pain of a cracked hip on one side and a broken leg in several places on the other. He was taken to local vets who called us as the local AC was suggesting euthanasia and sending his head off to check for rabies. We went and got him, he had surgery on both injuries at the same time and is great now.
"you cannot save them all," they said. "that does not mean we cannot try," we said

My first experience with Cliffords was finding a dog a forever home that I had took quickly due to a circumstance with the previous owner. My lifestyle doesn't allow for a dog at the moment and volunteering has brought me so much joy and filled a puppy paw size void for me. I have seen so much good put back into the Universe 1 paw at a time by Deb, Tammy, Maggie and the many other volunteers.

I first attended a C.A.R.E. with my own rescue in 2014, and was astonished at the level of compassion and the amount of work that those first 5 leaders were putting into such a large event, with very little help.
10 years later, I am proud to be a member of this Army of volunteers, giving a voice to all who have none of their own.
Every day we get more calls and every day more people step up in ways they don't have to in order to help. Someday, all dogs will have loving homes. Until then, they have Clifford's.

I've followed this rescue since one of its first meetings YEARS ago, and volunteered or fostered as I am able. For years I've watched their growth and all they have done for animals in need. This group is made up of people who care deeply and sacrificially. I am always impressed by how much they do, and when I think they are "full" they find a way to help another animal in need. They are hardworking, transparent, and tenacious in their goals and vision.

I am sure Clifford's has helped many animals and I am sure if I contacted them to give a donation, I would hear from someone immediately. However, I sent 2 emails and made a phone call, desperately asking whether they could or could not take a stray dog that might have to be put down and here it is a week later and no one could be bothered to contact me with a "yes" or "no.". I have rescued dogs and cats for years without help from any organization. I already have 9 other dogs and 10 cats, all former strays, but I picked up a female dog on a busy highway and brought her home, only to discover some aggressive traits. Not wanting anyone to be hurt, I contacted Clifford's as Animal Control was not an option. I understand if they can't help but NOT contacting me is unconscionable.

After saying goodbye to our 17 year old furbaby about 6 months earlier, we decided we were ready for our next furbaby. We reached out to four rescues, and CARE was by far the most responsive and helpful! The puppy we initially applied for was no longer available, but they got us approved and started sending us information on their new pups. We adopted our sweet Elsie in May, and we’ve loved her since before we picked her up. I cannot recommend Clifford’s Army Rescue enough! Please consider them for your next pet adoption or foster, or for a donation.

Cliffords says yes to not just the cute fluffy puppies but to the older dogs & the dogs who due to medical conditions would otherwise be euthanized. They also offer monthly free food drives for the community & help owners get their adult dogs spayed/neutered when they surrender puppies to be adopted.

Our sweet Ophelia was bottle fed by a Clifford’s Army Rescue volunteer. When I first met her I fell in love. Clifford's Army Rescue (CARE) is a real asset to Cleveland and surrounding counties. CARE works closely with rescue partners and the local Cleveland Co. Animal Shelter (CCAS) to ensure that the animals without a voice have all they need to go on to a loving, successful life in a permanent home. This rescue not only provides the basics of vaccines, spay/neuter services, and microchipping but goes the extra mile to provide medical care for those that are sick, injured or in need of training to become a successful family member. CARE also provides free food to the public and assists with medical care in certain situations in order to ensure that the animals in Cleveland Co. are able to stay within their family unit. The attached photo is BRUCE....CARE took in BRUCE as a special needs dog with severe medical issues due to an auto immune disease. Due to CARE providing medical treatment Bruce was allowed to live his life to the fullest until the disease took over his entire system and he passed away. My husband and I were blessed to be foster parents for this super sweet chocolate lab.

As a volunteer for Clifford's Army Rescue, I am continually impressed with how many fur babies we are able to help on a daily basis even in the midst of a pandemic. This year we have participated in several food drives where we gave away feed to families who were in need. We also were able to provide some funding assistance to cover vetting expenses in order to keep these fur kids healthy and with their forever families; all the while carrying out the duties/responsibilities of our rescue during the Covid pandemic. Even though the pandemic grossly affected our bottom line we have been able to assist 363 lives through adoptions, rescue partner saves, rescue partner transfers, etc. Since we have been in "special circumstances" we have had to get creative in our fundraising endeavors and as usual for our rescue God has provided. We are grateful to our donors and sponsors who help to support this worthwhile non-profit and continue to stand with us even during more trying times.

This organization has helped me out in so many ways. This summer we found a scared pup at the ballfield that was cowering in the shade as it was 90+ degrees. It was apparent that the dog had been on her own for a while. I called Clifford's and they quickly came out, assessed the situation and took the sweet pup in. She was fully vetted and then was adopted. I am so glad that they are willing to take care of our animals that have fallen on hard times no matter what.

There is only one rescue I trust completely with unsocialized puppies/dog - Clifford's Army Rescue (CARE). I have volunteered at 2 rural NC shelters and Clifford's Army Rescue has helped with feral dogs and dogs so scared that no one else is able to help them. And they stand by them month after month sometimes it even goes into years as these dogs are not quick adoptions. These dogs are saved from euthanasia and given a chance at a new life. CARE is an excellent rescue with exceptional experience and highly engaged supporters. These 5 dogs that I know personally from shelters are alive and thriving today because CARE rescued them!

I have Called on CLifford’s Army twice in great need of help. Once for help with placing a great deal of “puppies” from someone who could not afford to have them any longer. It was heartbreaking for her and they kept her updated and was able to help her with the transition as well as offering to help spay/neuter the ones she was keeping.
The second time was for myself as I found myself in a situation with a “rescued dog” that I couldn’t continue to handle on my own. No questions asked, they were there as soon as I wanted them to be. Me sooner, no later. They kept me updated about her as they knew I was heartbroken to give her up.
Would give more than 5 stars if I could.

I first began volunteering for C.A.R.E. a few years ago. I’ve never volunteered for any organization where so many worked so hard, like it was their full time job. Even when funds & fosters are short, they find it hard to say no to an animal in need. Many animals that people would have decided needed euthanasia, volunteers pitched in and nursed them to health & they eventually found their forever homes. Every dime donated goes straight to the dogs. Volunteers even spend money out of their own pocket. A wonderfully dedicated group of people and our community is better off for having them.

Clifford’s Army Rescue Extravaganza (C.A.R.E.) is a wonderful animal rescue!!! When I first heard of them & all they do, I began donating financially. I’ve never seen anyone able to do so much with so little resources. There is no overhead or administrative costs, 100% of all money given goes to the animals. The coordinator does everything to try to help as many dogs, & a few cats, as she can, regardless of the situation. They help, without discrimination of the the dog’s adoptibilty. They help the old, the sick, the ones on death’s door, healthy puppies, sick puppies, even puppies who still need round the clock bottle feeding. All this is possible because of an Army of dedicated volunteers who truly love what they do. They give tirelessly their time, efforts, & sometimes their own money. They do all this to ensure all the animals r healthy & fully vetted, before they’re adopted. I saw all this & couldn’t resist. I had to get involved. Now, I’m a volunteer & part of this Army. I love what I do!!! I hope we can grow & continue to help even more. We desperately need this in our area. Countless animals would b dead, if not for Clifford’s Army. But, countless more need our help & that’s why I volunteer. Because I know Clifford’s makes a difference. I know they save lives. It’s always all about the dogs. I know they truly C.A.R.E.

This rescue has helped me more times than I can count. I called them for help on a hoarding situation. Most of the dogs were in bad shape. One was so bad she had to have 2 legs removed and an eye. She had been hit by a car and owner never vetted her. The dog had lived in severe pain for months. There were so many. I called Cliffords Army and they helped all of them, I think there were 31. All in dire need of vetting. Another time I called on them a dog had been set on fire near my work. Once again they came through. These were not easy rescues. Thanks to them all of the dogs were saved and now living great life's. They have brought me food to help feed dogs in my community. They do so much I could write a book on them. December 2019 I decided I wanted to be a part of Clifford’s Army and foster a small dog. After a couple of weeks of having precious little Bobbi Jo I knew she wasn’t going anywhere! I adopted her the next month! Little did I know that I needed her as much as she needed me. After losing my youngest son a couple years ago at only 19 she has brought so much happiness to life again with meaning. Bobbi Jo came from a home nearby in Rutherfordton that had 150 dogs in one home that were starving, neglected, living in filth. She was sick like all the dogs in that home! Cliffords went in with several rescues and took all the dogs they would agree to surrender. I got Bobbi Jo they day they had gotten her spayed. After watching the past year, I was amazed what all Clifford’s Army Rescue did in our county and many others nearby, I knew I had to join the Army to help save as many of the abused, sick, neglected, dumped and elderly dogs! I’m proud to be a part of Clifford’s Army!!! We can’t save every dog but we can try within our means. We can only do fundraisers on facebook right now. There are no dog events to show case our pups during this Covid crisis. We desperately need volunteers, fosters, and donations during this difficult time. If you are interested in helping in any way, please reach out to us!!! I have a beautiful girl Im fostering now. Her name is Lexus, a 4 yr old boxer/ pit mix. She is the sweetest girl ever!!!

I am a volunteer/foster for CARE, and the efforts that go into every dog (and cat) are tremendous. From vetting, to checking for the right fit, to forever home; so much compassion and restless nights go into each and every animal. The picture is a 16yr old, high hw+ senior girl that CARE pulled from the local shelter. Her family dumped her there, no longer wanted. She will live out her days being loved and pampered, all because of CARE and their love for the animals.

I have known most of this rescue's organizers and I have to commend their hard work and dedication for all of the animals that they help save, rescue, foster, etc. They go far and beyond their means to try to save them all!! Their spirits and hearts are true souls that is very hard to find these days. Keep up the hard work! #TeamCliffordsArmy

Clifford’s Army Rescue Extravaganza has helped countless animals in our county and even from surrounding counties. They not only save lives, they are the the voice for those who can’t speak, and have brought about so many positive changes in our community. I always know that CARE will do what is in the best interest of the animals.

We adopted Max a few months ago and it's clear how much love and time was spent with this dog while he was still with the program, which made bringing him into our home seamless. I've adopted two other dogs and this is by far my best experience with adoption so far! Max is so well-adjusted, so loving, and has fit right in at our home and brought us so much happiness. I'm so grateful to the people who took care of him during his time with the rescue, the work they did with him is very clear. Thank you for our newest family member!

This organization along with the affiliates we have made over the years is tireless. All funds go directly to helping the rescues. It is totally volunteer. Even as we are continually at our capacity and funds are non existent there is never saying no to the needy.

Adopted my now 6 month old puppy 4 months ago from Clifford’s Army. They took very good care of all the puppies and made sure they went to a great home. They were very responsive and helpful along the way.

This is Kona- a spirited, curious and loving member of our family thanks to Cliffords Army. Not only did we get her from this amazing rescue- she was also trained through Bark and Heal - where several volunteers work with pups and children to assist both populations in gaining skills! So grateful!

Cliffords army is a great rescue group. They preform home visits to make sure the pets are going to the best home possible along with giving all of them lots of love and care. I adopted Mac from them back in March and am so happy to have found my perfect pup. His mother was surrendered pregnant to the pound and they rescued her and his entire litter.

CARE goes above and beyond for the animals of Cleveland County. Deb especially gives it 150% and makes such a difference on the lives on these babies. If she does not have an answer, she will not stop until she gets one. I love and support Cliffords

These people work nonstop to help ALL furbabies they possibly can. At the same time, they hold down jobs, care for families, and maintain relationships with their friends. Pretty amazing group of people!!!

I have been involved with Cliffords for about 7-8 years now. We have saved so many animals in that time. While we understand we cannot save them all, we give every animal the chance of a great life. Whether it be a healthy dog, or a senior with major medical issues. We give that all a chance. We also partner with many other rescues to save even more. We are a foster based rescue, all volunteer. One of the best rescues around. The president, Deb Hardin, goes above and beyond the imaginable.... a few pictures of the many we have saved...

Deb helped me look for a rescue home for a elderly German Shepherd and we found a loving home! Cliffords also helped with the Vet bill. We are blessed to have you all helping these precious babies! I will be forever grateful!!!

Clifford’s Army Rescue is an all volunteer dog rescue who puts their hears and time and sometimes their own money into saving as many as possible. Kaleb is just one example. He was found by a DOT employee and Clifford’s president received the call. She met him, Kaleb had been in a ditch, both legs broken, could not walk, Soave carried him to the vets. He was so emaciated, he could not immediately have surgery on his legs. Once an orthopedic surgeon was consulted, it was discovered three surgeries were needed at an estimated cost of 7k. This did not stop the Army. Fundraisers began. One of the officers actually auctioned off collectibles from her home and the generous community came to the rescue.
Clifford’s saves the sick, the injured, the abandoned, young or old and believes that all lives indeed do matter.
From puppies that need to be bottle fed to hospice patients, they all deserve unconditional love as that is whT they give to us.

Clifford’s Army goes above and beyond to help/save the furbabies. A couple of years ago I found an abandoned kitten in the pouring rain on the highway. I pulled the kitten to safety and reached out to Deb Hardin, Clifford’s Army and within thirty minutes she had a foster mom in place for this sweet baby. I’m happy to say that this kitty is now living up north in a warm, loving home. They are awesome!
