Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Civil Rights

Mission: As clue, we educate, organize, and mobilize the faith community. To accompany workers and their families in their struggle for good jobs, dignity, and justice.

Programs: Clue actively pushed la city council and county board of supervisors to set a higher bar for wage increases to a $15/hr minimum wage by 2020 with no exemptions, assuring that other cities do not undercut this pathway, and fueling a statewide ballot initiative as well for november 2016! Income inequality challenges our religious traditions' belief in the inherent worth and dignity of all people. Clue leaders delegated management, spoke at public hearings and press conferences, delivered petitions, and joined workers on picket lines all over los angeles, and now orange county as well. Three port truck driving companies in los angeles and long beach and menzies airport workers, now have collective bargaining agreements with their employees. 160 hotel workers and their families have been lifted out of poverty and insecurity by winning the union at the downtown la doubletree. Our leaders have been in the trenches with the workers over several decades from what was then the new otani to what is now the doubletree. Clue has educated, organized, and mobilized to address racial injustices and to shine a bright light on what for many is a shadowy, rigged and broken criminal justice system. Clue has been the lead faith-based group to constantly push for reform of the los angeles sheriffs department through a civilian oversight commission, hounding the la county board of supervisors, demanding transparency and accountability in dealing with police violence at the county level. A full year of activism, and while it seems stalled, we are preparing to fight back, loudly and collectively with african american and jewish leaders, to demand that the supervisors finish the job. It is the only way to guarantee that #blacklivesmatter, really. Clue has coordinated lutheran, episcopal, evangelical, catholic, jewish, methodist and presbyterian organizations to provide literally tons of materials (food, blankets, hygiene kits, household goods, school supplies, new books, travel vouchers, etc. ) to thousands of unaccompanied minor children that have arrived in la, fleeing extreme violence, crushing poverty and abandonment from their home countries in central america.
