Mission: To ensure cleaner air quality for all north carolinians through education and advocacy and by working with our partners to reduce sources of pollution.
Programs: Community education programsachievements: maintenance of ten educational ozone gardens at public schools and in the community; sponsorship of ozone garden workshop; implementation of idlefreenc program by providing signage and educational materials to public schools in a six county region; hosted art/science installation in raleigh of particle falls for four weeks to educate the public and policy makers about the dangers of invisible particle pollution; sponsorship of free environmental educational films
medical advocates for healthy air (maha)achievements: successful creation of clean construction partnership with novant health and atrium health to reduce diesel pollution at all construction sites; sponsorship of 3rd annual nc breathe conference for scientists, medical professionals, government and business leaders, clean air advocates, and students; creation of monthly online newsletter for maha members; educational presentations at seven conferences
airkeepers citizen science programachievements: hired full-time citizen science manager to oversee expansion of monitoring across the state, build partnerships, and create programs which result in limiting exposure to air pollution by residents and reducing emissions; air sensors expanded from mecklenburg county to 15 additional counties; continued partnership with the epa to provide input for their online citizen science toolkit; educational engagements with schools and universities; presentations at conferences about the airkeeper program.
