Citychurch has provided & continue to provide amazing opportunities for the many underprivileged youth of McKinney. I love being a part of this organization! The love they have for children is amazing to experience!
City Church is one of those rare home grown "organic" non-profits, whose founders are caring for their neighboring communities from the heart. Kelly and Carol Woods and family members and group of volunteers are helping to transform lives of children, to keep them out of trouble from drugs to gangs, and I am an eyewitness to their awesome work, because the Lord is working with them. Praise God indeed!
I have had the incomparable privilege of being a Citychurch volunteer for five months. On day one, I fell in love with the children and teenagers and hope to remain a part of this ministry for years to come. This ministry is led by a most unique family. Kelly and Carol Wood founded Citychurch seven years ago and are the heart and soul of Sundays at Citychurch and all special events, such as summer's Popsicles in the Park. Three of the Wood's adult children are equally devoted to and passionate about this ministry. The level of commitment is stunning. The Woods have invested untold time, money and resources to come alongside Citychurch youth and be a stable, sustained source of physical, emotional and spiritual nourishment for youth who would otherwise be invisible. The Woods and the other Citychurch volunteers love these kids and are committed to establishing deep roots and long-term relationships with these children and their families. This ministry is The Real Thing.
Citychurch is an outstanding Youth Outreach in McKinney. They are truly "where the kids". In addition to fun and food, they teach the gospel while walking the walk themselves.
I have been working with Citychurch for several years and I cannot even begin to express how greatly I think of this outreach ministry. Whereas many ministries and churches have been more focus on their name being everywhere and getting the credit for their good deeds, CITYCHURCH is outwards focused. The focus is on the youth and the families in the community which can be seen through the actions of the church. Leaving behind the typical church politics, Citychurch has a progressive feel because the volunteers are encouraged to go out and take charge in all the events/interactions. As a volunteer I was encouraged to remove myself from the equation and truly serve like Christ…. There are no prosperity messages given here, but rather real lessons that the youth/families can take out into the real world and live more like Christ. I truly found a sense of self in serving with this organization and I would recommend anyone, regardless of religious views, to volunteer and become a part of something greater. THIS ORGANIZATION IS A LIFE CHANGER. In working with this organization you will not only affect the youth through interaction, but I bet You will walk away with a greater feeling of self awareness and appreciation. Giving back is rewarding.
