Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Gift Distribution, Human Services

Mission: From the organization's website (citysanta. Org):what did you dream of owning, as a kid? A bike, video games, maybe an ipad? Those gifts are wishful thinking for kids living in shelters. Their dreams are more practical; warm clothing, coats, socks, and shoes. And often their wishes are not for themselves, but for their family, as in, "santa, my mommy needs a coat. " since 2001, city santa has delivered these basic necessities, as well as books and toys, to families in crisis at the holidays and throughout the year. We've given a hand up to women and children living in domestic violence shelters, families in homeless shelters and a shelter devoted to adults with disabilities. We've also brightened the holidays for children of military veterans struggling after serving in the war, as well children in boys & girls clubs.

Programs: Please refer to the organization's website at www. Citysanta. Org for a complete description of the organization's program services. Over 1200 persons benefited last year.

Volunteer

Rating: 5

The organization, City Santa, gathers and collects donations for children, adults, and infants in clothes, toys, toiletries from every conceivable prospective donor in response to Santa letters from kids and families residing in domestic and homeless shelters. A group of volunteers from all around the city, from teens to adults, chips in to gather, wrap and group the gifts for families.
The organizational set up is massive. Volunteers walk into a large empty space, where hundreds of donations are sorted by first family, gender, size and adult, teens or kids including hundreds of various sized gift boxes, bags, pre-cut wrapping paper, ribbons, tape etc It is definitely a Santa helpers' enclave.
The donations of sweaters, pants, hats, gloves, toiletries, toys, accessories are customized and personally addressed to the family members. This is an extraordinary effort by the founder, and by the primary support team members.
The bags of gifts, toys, and clothes are then delivered to each of these respective shelters in NYC.
Major kudos to an exceptional organization and effort to those in need.
