Mission: City of Asylum fosters freedom of expression, social justice and community development; we create a vibrant community for writers, readers, and neighbors by providing home, support, and the opportunity to write for endangered literary writers, by publishing a magazine, and offering free literary programs in our community
Results: Since 2004, four exiled writers and 11 visiting international writers and scholars have participated in City of Asylum's writer residencies, with the exiled writers receiving on average two years of housing plus stipend and health care on their way to a stable permanent residence. Monthly readings plus quarterly events such as Jazz-Poetry Concert and Exiled Voices serve roughly 2500 people annually on Pittsburgh's northside; and Sampsonia Way Magazine, launched in 2010, serves a global community online with more than 20,000 unique visitors per month.

FOR READERS & NEIGHBORS - Sampsonia Way Magazine (www.samponiaway.org); Events: Voices of Exile (May), Jazz Poetry Concert (September), Monthly readings. Coming in 2013: Alphabet City literary center.
