Buffalo City Mission not only provides emergency shelter and nourishing meals to thousands of homeless men, women and children, but also has comprehensive recovery programs to help them rebuild stable, healthy, productive lives. Of particular note are the Turkey Express at Thanksgiving and the Hambone Express at Christmas, when the whole family can get involved in helping the less fortunate. This is a truly wonderful organization
Buffalo City Mission not only helps those in need financially, but everyone is treated with respect and dignity. The goal is to help people to improve themselves, and get their lives back.
The Buffalo City Mission is a wonderful organization for the city of Buffalo. The number of people that are helped each year between housing and food is phenomenal. Not to mention that they give people hope and spiritual guidance at times when they need it most. Many people's lives have been changed due to the caring and support given.
My name is Ronnie Williams. I was a client at The Buffalo City Mission between 2009 and 2011. When I first came to the Mission, I didn't know how to do the right thing. Because of their programs, I am now employed and I go to work Happy every day. I also have my own apartment that I am able to come home to every night. I now volunteer at the Mission and can give hope to others because I have been there and can relate to their situations. I thank God for the City Mission. God Bless You and Thank you!
I'm a former resident of the Buffalo City Mission and I graduated from their Discipleship program. This program has changed my life so much, you just dont know! Prior to entering the program, I was heavily addicted to drugs, now I have over 3 years clean and serene. I have had my own apartment for almost a year now and still going strong! I want to give all praise and glory to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, amen! My name is Michael Norman, I am an alumni of the Discipleship program. I graduated in April 2012. I just can't thank the Mission enough for giving me the opportunity to learn how to live once again!
Sometimes our lives take a path that leads us in a direction unintended. Organizations such as City MIssion are tantamount in gently nudging us back into the proper lane. I arrived in Buffalo from Boston with a job - so that was a good start... but no money to feed myself until the first check arrived. City Missions community meals program is well run, organized and orderly. The staff are kind and courteous and I for one (and many) appreciate such things when we are a little on the edge of life. I intend to both volunteer, and donate to City Mission once I am up and running so to speak. I applaud them for their unwavering commitment to the Buffalo area people in need.
Ellen Grant I went to The Buffalo City Mission to consult and ended up being a part of the fabric of staff who are so dedicated to making the lives of men, women and children better in our WNY Community. The staff, board and volunteers work beyond what is expected to ensure the entire community knows there are those who want just the basics in life, but are overwhelmingly grateful when they receive the extra dollar, meal or clothing for themselves and their own loved ones who come to seek shelter, physical and spiritual food. The community will never cease needing the Buffalo City Mission!
The Buffalo City Mission is helping those in our society most in need. They are creating positive change by providing crisis housing and programming that is transforming individuals into all that God created them to be. I am thrilled that we have an organization like this in WNY. Thank you City Mission!!
My story is a bit personal. I have been in recovery since 1994 and am very active in a 12 step program. So many of my friends began their path to sobriety and clean time right at the City Mission. They were given a chance when they had no one. Because of this, they are clean, productive members of society today. Nice work, City Mission!
The Buffalo City Mission has been a leader in our community's efforts to assist the homeless. They are the largest men's shelter in Western New York and also serve women in families at Cornerstone Manor. When there is a need in this community to collaborate with other agencies to help those less fortunate, the City Mission is always at the table simply asking "what do you need us to do?" When the community saw a need to open Warming Centers during Buffalo's cold winter nights, the City Mission was there helping to make it work and opening their doors to the most vulnerable homeless. They are always at the forefront of the community effort to end homelessness.
The Buffalo City Mission has been a wonderful way to teach my children how to give back in a meaningful way. We have been volunteering for Thanksgiving & an occasional Christmas meal for the past 7 years. I wanted a way to give my teenage daughters a sense of helping others since they were not inclined to go to church with me. The mission truly helped us as much as helping people get their lives back on track. The people of the city mission do God's work and show God's love for so many people. Being apart of their holiday efforts is a lot of work but so much joy comes from it.
