I got my two kitties from City Critters 4 years ago. They are amazing, caring folks. If you want to adopt a cat these are the people to go to!
After trying to help UN employee, who begged to adopt her cat, Spongy, otherwise the cat will be euthanized – it was a matter of life a death - we fund several potential parents for Spongy. Ms. Eleanor who works with & for City Critters, was very rude with some of us and claimed that she found a home for Spongy. She refused to talk to people who wanted to give a decent home for 8-9 year old Spongy. We all just hope that she really found a home! She hardly remember his name, she called him Jim. If anybody can confirm that Spongy has a home and a good home, it will be good to know.
I went to the Petco at Kips Bay to look at the kitties. I filled out an adoption application even though I was still mourning the loss of my cat Cosmo. I didn't adopt that day, instead I spent about an hour there talking to 2 of the volunteers. They are true cat lovers in every sense. They do a lot of rescuing, and two weeks later I received a call from one of the volunteers (I just can't remember her name), asking me if I could do an emergency foster of a mom and her litter of 5. I did. The caring and love they have for cats is truly inspiring.
A while later I happily made a donation. I urge NYC cat lovers and those in other states and countries to donate to this very worthwhile charity!
