Causes: Developmentally Disabled Centers, Disabilities, Human Services
Mission: Providing protection and advocacy to individuals who have developmental disabilities by initiating and supporting one-to-one relationships between a person who has a developmental disability and an independent unpaid citizen, recruited by citizen advocacy of atlanta & dekalb, inc. , who makes a commitment to represent the vulnerable person's interests as if they were the advocates own interest. In the course of initiating and supporting these relationships, and in all actions and communications of citizen advocacy of atlanta & dekalb, inc. ; to uphold the dignity of people who have disabilities, and to generate personal and financial support for the work of the organization.
Programs: A valued citizen, who is unpaid and independent of human services, creates a relationship with a person who is vulnerable to abuse, neglect or social isolation. The citizen advocate chooses one or several of many ways to understand, respond to, and represent that person's interests as if they were the advocate's own, thus bringing the person's gifts and concerns into the circles of ordianary community life.
