Mission: The purposes of citizen of new york, inc. Are to promote the social welfare by working to (a) increase the civic power of low and moderate income people by encouraging and providing a vehicle for collective democratic patricipation in public affairs; (b) improve the quality of life in new york state; and (c) unite people regardless of race, color, creed, ethnic background, sex, age, or sexual orientation.
Programs: Citizen action of new york organized in communities across new york state to pursue social, racial, economic and environmental justice. Citizen action was a leader in the coalitions to increase public education funding and expand early childhood education in new york. Citizen action mobilized to protect the affordable care act and expand health care coverage. Citizen action also organized support for reforms to the criminal justice system, wage laws, campaign finance system, and environmental protections.
