Mission: Circle of Friends unites adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), neurotypical peers, and older adults to foster meaningful connections, cultivate purpose-driven lives, and build inclusive communities where everyone is valued and supported. This is accomplished through intergenerational endeavors that: ~ Create an organic social structure to provide opportunities to develop positive relationships. ~ Foster appropriate and supportive employment opportunities for young adults to gain valuable skills and earn a fair wage through mentoring relationships. ~ Develop a model for an intergenerational, attainable, and supportive residential community.
Results: Circle of Friends has grown our socialization program by hosting sixteen activities annually and encourages additional activities to be hosted by our community friends and supporters. We have opened the Circuit Cafe and Flourish Cafe as part of our supportive employment arm, employing 28 adults with IDD, seven neuro-typical peers, and 5 regular volunteers. We are currently working with community development experts to locate land for our intergenerational affordable housing community.
