Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Arts & Culture, Arts Services, Human Services, Senior Centers, Seniors

Mission: Circle of Care is the cultural/community link for senior facility residents, homebound seniors, and their care-givers. This community faces a number of factors such as the loss of family or friends, physical or cognitive challenges, and limited incomes, all of which contribute to restricted access to the community. Circle of Care advocates for the full community participation of the older adult by facilitating enlivening experiences to foster self-worth, creative expression, community partnership and a renewed sense of aliveness. Our activites are made possible though our business and community partners, and a team of volunteers.

Circle of Care contracted me to write a grant proposal for them and never paid me for the service. I notified the Executive Director, Joan Raderman, of the amount that I charge and she agreed. I prepared the 32 page grant to the best of my ability, which was quite a challenge as the financial information and statistics I was given all contradicted each other. I delivered the completed project and informed her that all she would need to do is attach her organization's overall yearly budget and list of board members. I told her I would send her an invoice and expect payment within two weeks. Two weeks has past and no payment has arrived. I called her to ask why not, and she said she was refusing to pay me and also would not give me any contact information of a board member or their attorney. I cannot believe that an ED of a charitable business would scam a dedicated, experiences, and successful grant writer and fraudulently contract them without paying for the service. I find that this organization is inadequately run and a scam.
