Not only is The COC (Christians Overcoming Cancer) a viable solution for those in need, but also the experience of volunteering is uplifting as well.
Being able to donate my time, energy and money, to an organization that is committed toward responding to cancer patients needs with the appropriate local referrals, offer trained mental/spiritual support, and then meet needs with finances. By definition, these are acts of love where we decided to fit ourselves to together and add strength one to an another, for each other’s benefit.
It is part of the foundational principles and best practices that will have the most ‘traction as we move forward."
Genuine care, compassion, love and prayers...that is what is at the heart of Christians Overcoming Cancer.
This organization has been a blessing to my family! During a time when we had given up hope there was Mary Jenkins and The COC. Ms Mary is amazing, an angel on earth! Her passion for helping others touches the heart of everyone who crosses her path. People battling cancer are blessed to have her on their side.
This is an amazing organization. I have worked closely with Mary Jenkins for several years since reading about COC and their need for an auto repair center to help a family where the Mom and Dad both had cancer. We have joined forces to help several customers through the years with auto problems. I personally donate money to help the people who need bills paid, but cannot work because they are in active treatment. I first hand have witnessed this with my best friend who fought pancreatic cancer for over 2 years. It left her financially bankrupt. COC helped her family as well. I have watched Mary Jenkins work for the good of this organization while battling cancer, failed reconstruction surgery, diabetes, death in her family....and she doesn't stop. Her main goal is to continuously get donations in order to help as many people as possible. She prays with and for them, takes time to listen to them and understands what they are going through....because she has been there. No other organization provides this type of support to people in active treatment. Cancer is devastating, but having COC to help and give relief when patients need assistance with paying bills or car repairs or making that rent payment means a lot to the people battling this awful disease.
Cancer sucks! It is already challenging to be battling the health struggles of cancer. Then that battle impacts other areas of life and family. The COC truly cares about all areas of the person fighting cancer. And supporting them through this battle.
You cannot find a more caring and supportive person in the Founder of The COC, Mary Jenkins. She is truly thoughtful and attentive to everyone she encounters and wants to help in the multitude of situations that the 'big' cancer charities just do not help in. The needs across the country exceed the ability to help, but that only drives her harder to work more for the people! Being a cancer survivor herself, she brings a light and understanding to others' needs. There is no better organization to support than this fundamentally grassroots charity and I am proud to support her.
I first learned about the COC when my dad was diagnosed with cancer. As soon as Mary, the Founder, leaned about dad, she prayed daily and provided support and comfort for my whole family until the last day. Mary has a genuine heart for others. Especially those whose lives have been impacted by cancer. I now consider Mary to be a lifelong friend, and I would highly recommend The COC to those needing some help while they are actively battling cancer.
I would like to say coc is the best place for help while i was battling for my life i was struggling with bills and other thing and coc and mary went above and beyond to make sure my bills ,car and even my kids christmas was amazing. Thank you coc
I've been a supporter of Christians Overcoming Cancer, now the COC, since it's roll out nearly 14 years ago. I have personally witnessed individuals' and families' life circumstances addressed and hope restored to so many. As an advisor, I remain close with the Founder and support the organization as best as I can giving perspective and assistance to the best of my ability. This is NOT a biased review; rather - a necessary one. I could have easily not said anything but I believe in what this organization does for so many and am excited at the thought of how many lives the organization will impact for years to come. I believe it is important to allot portions of our time to things that put goodness out into the world and I think the COC is one of those things.
My mom has stage 4 lung cancer and is undergoing chemo. We have filled out all the forms they asked for and sent them in, i have sent emails and left messages but none has been returned. I understand if they can not help but we have heard nothing and sent a lot of personal information to them. At this point i do not know what to think.
Review from Guidestar
COC is an organization that is extremely underrated when it comes to the world of Cancer. They are unique from other cancer organizations in the fact that they actually help THE PATIENTS and their directly affected families through support, education, advocacy, and financial assistance to help ease the financial burden of those battling for their lives. The funds they raise are NOT raised for research and do not join in on further enabling this debilitating disease to remain lucrative for pharmaceutical companies and the administrators' pockets.
The CEO and face of Christians Overcoming Cancer Miss Mary Jenkins is a 2x breast cancer survivor and has used her experiences to passionately help others going through what she herself has went through and endured.
I will continue to support the mission of this organization 100% and I would highly recommend for others to do the same!!
Thanking God for the commitment of service, love and loyalty to assist as many people as possible during their need. They operate in the spirit of excellence restoring dignity, extending hope and a listening ear.
I do have cancer, a rare form of lymphoma. I've had it now for 4 years, started in my lungs and had to have back to back black to back lung surgeries. My cure, as my first oncologist told me, I was good to go for 20 years, lasted 6 months!!!! I met Mary at one of our group fundraiser, for her foundation. It was not until later, that I learned the truth about these big foundations, livestrong who sent out 2 nice binders filled with information And in the back how to get financial help. Not one word about Christians Overcoming Cancer!!! Same with lymphoma society, and the others, but I have seen the forwarded envelopes to COC
Where to begin on describing this organization. First and foremost it is lead from the heart. With most "cancer fundraisers" it's important to know how the money you give is being used. Christians Overcoming Cancer without a doubt helps those in immediate need of personal essentials and just plain ole day to day living--NOT RESEARCH! I give to DOC as much as I can--it makes the heart feel good :)
This organization is amazing!! The work that is being done to help others is such a gift and a blessing to so many!!
As the Founder of Christians Overcoming Cancer it is my pleasure to provide an informational review of who we are.
I founded the organization in 2006 after the Susan G Komen Foundation told me they didn't use the money raised to help people actually battling cancer, the American Cancer Society said they didn't offer financial assistance for gave possible places that could help and LIVESTRONG although saying they offered financial assistance didn't offer the help I needed.
We just celebrated our 11th Year Anniversary!
Over the past 11 Years we have successfully brought awareness to where money goes and DOES NOT go in the world of cancer; emotionally supported men, women and parents of children battling cancer and raised money to help people ACTUALLY battling cancer pay bills...
Over the past 11 yrs COC has helped people across the country when in their most desperate of times.
Over the past 11 yrs COC has become the #1 go to for people battling cancer in need of help.
Over the past 11 yrs COC has received referrals from the American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen Foundation, Cancer Centers of America, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the Prostate Cancer Foundation, The Wellness Center, the Columbus Cancer Clinic, St. Jude's, The Patient Advocate Foundation LIVESTRONG, and MANY MORE hospitals, insurance companies and other organizations.
Over the past qq yrs we have helped people actually battling cancer who live across the country and partnered with organizations and people in other countries
Over the past 11 yrs we could not have helped anyone without the generous donations from people across the country.
We have done all this with a volunteer staff who are passionate about helping cancer patients succeed on their road to recovery.
While I was fighting prostate cancer Christians Overcoming Cancer came to my family's aid and helped us by paying our rent. I didn't think anyone could help us with the $600 we needed. God bless this organization. They really do help!
A great group of people. Mary Jenkins is so inspiring and makes an impact with everyone she encounters! I Love Christians Overcoming Cancer!
Christians Overcoming Cancer has been our primary beneficiary for eight years. Their mission is to help people going through treatment, pay their bills. Mary Jenkins, the Founder, has demonstrated leadership with her high energy of consistent and persistent direction.
This is the rare charity that does not have an expensive leadership team and expensive marketing. They actually care about the people they are working to help.
I love the way this organization uses money to help PEOPLE in treatment!!! My regular donations come out of my paychecks and I wouldn't have it any other way!
Please join me in making sure PEOPLE aren't forgotten while society searches for a cure.
