Causes: Employment Preparation & Procurement, Job Training
Mission: The mission of christian women's job corp is to provide women a nurturing christ-centered environment fostering personal, professional, and spiritual growth enabling women to transform families and communities. Hundreds of women throughout mclennan county have become self-sufficient, are continuing their education, and are entering the work force which has improved their lives, their families' lives, our schools and our community. Ex-offenders are becoming productive citizens in our community.
Programs: Provided job skills, education and mentoring to approximately 150 women during 2014. Education track - women receive ged preparation. After passing the test, they proceed to the career track, continue their education at mclennan community college or texas state technical college, and/or enter the work force . Each woman also has an encourager who communicates with her weekly. Bible study daily. Career track - women receive training in life and employment skills including communication, boundaries, personal development, computer skills, interviewing skills, and success in the workplace. Each woman has a mentor who communicates with her weekly for one year and has bible study daily during classes. Night classes - working women receive training in life and employment skills including boundaries, personal development, computer skills, and success in the workplace. Each woman also has a mentor who communicates with her weekly for one year and has bible study during classes. Alumni program - graduates from all tracks are a part of the alumni and continue to receive personal, professional, and spiritual support as well as continued education through quarterly workshops and a yearly retreat. Graduates give back to the community by participating in volunteer opportunities. One-to-one connections - women are matched to a trained mentor who works with them for a year, meeting weekly to work on life and job skills using resources in the community as well as cwjc classes. Community education - life and job skills classes are taught in a 6 week program in mclennan county jail allowing relationships to develop that can continue when the offender is released. This gives the women a better chance of not returning to the lifestyle that necessitated incarceration. It helps the women, their families, and our community. Cwjc classes are also taught in other organizations in the county, i. E. Carenet, cenikor rehabilitation facility, and waco housing authority fss program.
