Mission: The mission of the organization is to provide clothing to all children in need in St. Joseph county, Indiana. Parents of children who are served by our organization are also eligible for a $1,000 college scholarship through The Christ Child Society of South Bend. The scholarship is intended to be an annual, renewable award given to enable an eligible Christ Child client to pursue their education in order that they may better serve their children and our community.
Newborns receive a layette package which is a set of clothing and essential items for a newborn. Each layette consists of these new items: blankets, a book, onesie, teddy bear, t-shirt, wash cloths, sleeper, pram suit, bottles, knit sweater and hat and when possible, each layette is supplemented with good used clothing ranging in size 3 months to 12 months.
Toddlers receive a blanket sleeper, toddler two piece outfit, 7 pairs of underwear, 7 pairs of socks, sneakers, winter coat, hat, mittens, scarf and a book. Gently used clothes are also provided when they are in stock.
OIder children receive winter coat, hat, mittens, sneakers, 7 pairs of socks, 7 pairs of underwear, T-Shirt (or uniform shirt), Jean (or sweatpants or uniform pants), long sleeve shirt/sweatshirt, a book. When possible, each child receives good used clothing to supplement the new outfits.
Results: One quarter of a million children have found the dignity of new clothing, the empowerment of education, and the joy of learning to read - thanks to the decided volunteers of the Christ Child Society.
