Inasmuch that I don't frequently reply to telemarketing calls, I feel that with Chmol I was prompted to donate. I received a call from a very polite young woman asking me to contribute to their cause. As usual i was feeling pretty hesitant about committing, so i led the volunteer on a bit of a runaround asking a whole slew of questions about the organization and and exactly what services they provide. Frankly though i don't say this often, i must admit that i was really pleased with the patient manner in which i was answered and the comprehensive amount of information she offered. Due to my experience with this wonderful organization, i would strongly recommend donating to this great cause. For all of you wavering out there i have just one thing to tell you; Go for it!
Chmol is a truly wonderful organization, it helps needy individuals in Israel get the nourishment that they need to survive and thrive. Along helping people get the food they need they help families in financial crises with desperate need. The donation process was fairly simple and everybody I have ever talked to working for the organization has been helpful.
BEWARE!!!! DO NO DONATE TO CHMOL.
They run their organization in a fraudulent manner, having sent unsolicited bills for $36. Three times in 2019 I mistakenly sent them the money, and did not get any receipt... AND each and every time they claimed I had pledged the same $36 and that I still owed it to them. Finally at the end of the year I reviewed all my charity donations and realized their SCHEME. NOW IN 2020 THEY ARE DOING THE SAME THING. BEWARE!!!!
I would almost doubt that they even use most of the collected money for charity.

I do not know whether their charitable work is praise worthy and what proportion of its collections end up with the charity as opposed to the unconscionable telemarketer. I do know that its solicitation methods border on fraud. After the telephone solicitation is rejected, they send a statement showing an overdue "balance" for a "telephone pledge" that was never made.
Every year come January i get into the swing of compiling all my receipts of donations made to charitable organizations in the previous year. Being that i donate to many organizations on a constant basis i tend to misplace a number of receipts. Anyone who has ever plowed through all the paperwork can tell you how frustrating it can get when trying to obtain a tax receipt from various non profits. I've had enough stories of sales reps telling me "yes of course we'll send you receipts" but somehow they just never arrive, or "Lady check your files we definitely sent you one" while refusing to send me a new copy . I must say that when i called Chmol for my Tax deductible receipt, i was pleasantly surprised to be talking to a very polite volunteer who took all my information in a pleasant, and efficient manner reassuring me that although they do send out receipts right away and I did probably receive it they will be happy to reissue a new one. When checking my mail just a couple of days later i was satisfied to see that i did indeed receive the receipt from Chmol. Believe me as someone who deals with many non profits, i can firmly attest to the helpfulness of the volunteers as well as the great customer service. Thank you!
Thank god for the most caring people at CHMOL. A woman I know lost her husband tragically two years ago and since her only sister lived in Israel she relocated with her three little children to Israel. Being a single parent with three little children and no breadwinner she was going through an unbelievable difficult time financially, she found herself having to put her little children to sleep without food!. Can you imagine? When I learned about her situation I searched the web and gave her a list of Organizations I found that offer food assistance. She called me and couldn’t thank me enough, she said that while some of the organizations offered to help, CHMOL is the one Organization that really went out of their way and did not rest until she had everything she needed for the children. Besides helping her with food they also gave her new clothing for the kids, they bought her linen, and even a carriage for the baby. She said that it’s the first time since the tragic passing of her husband that she feels good, she feels cared for. Thank you CHMOL! God bless you!
Chmol is one Organization that is really worthy of our support. I had the privilege to see first hand the devotion and selflessness of this group, they are willing to do anything possible to ease the pain of those in need and they treat those unfortunate families with such dignity and respect. Rabbi Reinitz gives from himself day and night for the poor while at the same time he and his family live on the bare minimum and don't need anything for themselves. They truly deserve our support so they can continue their holy work. Thank you.
I have been receiving phone calls from them for years. Every single one, they ask if I "would like to make the same $36 pledge that you made last year?"
I always tell them, that I do not make phone pledges. This repeats every year. At the end of the year, I receive a letter stating "Final notice" regarding the monies that I owe from my phone pledge. I have called their office, and asked them to remove me from their list. They always tell me that they would, but year after year...
Recently, I received a call with the caller ID saying "Brooklyn, NY". They asked for my spouse (who has a different last name). When I stated that my spouse was unavailable, I asked if I can take a message. I asked them where they are calling from, they refused to answer. I repeated the question, by asking if they are calling from a company or an organization, they said "no, I am calling from Brooklyn."
In conclusion, I would seriously question the legitimacy of this organization, if they aren't even honest with their collection methods. I am sure many people fall this trick.
I have been donating to this charity for quite a number of years among other charities which support the needy in Israel. I was privileged to visit Israel recently and spend several weeks there. I decided to check the organizations I support and to see firsthand where my charity dollars have been going. I must say in all honesty that I was impressed with Chmol more than any other. The amount of food they distribute and the sensitivity their volunteer staff showed to the poor families was truly heartwarming. They do an unbelievable amount of good without fanfare. This is one organization worth everyone’s utmost support!
I donate through my local UJA and do not make telephone donations nor do I make donations to unsolicited mailings. I've received numerous calls from this organization asking for money and have told them I do not contribute in this manner, but they keep on pestering me.
Now I am receiving mail requests for a donation along with a "free raffle" for a trip to Israel. When I called and asked for a statement of the 501C3 status, I was told this could not be provided but not to worry.
I cannot honestly say if this is a scam charity or not, but in any case, I will not donate to them and suggest that if you do decide to give them your money, please do some research first.
I received a telephone solicitation from this organization and responded that I do not donate money over the phone. I received a second soliciation some time later and responded identically. I then received a "Second Reminder" letter in the mail telling me to pay my "pledge payment".
I made no pledge.
I looked up this entity on your website and note that, although they claim to have been in existence for over 20 years, they have made no financial information or IRS filings available.
