Mission: The chinese community center's mission is to bridge east & west by enriching families with educational, cultural, and social programs.
Programs: Early learning center: this program provides high-quality childcare and parenting workshops. In 2014, 160 children received early childhood education, 160 children received nutritious meals through the texas and adult care food program, and 261 parents were served through parenting classes and workshops.
workforce development program: this program provides intensive training in assisting individuals to become self-sufficient. In 2014, 125 clients received vocational training, 105 clients obtained gainful employment, 227 clients improved their net worth, 71 clients improved their income, 230 clients improved their credit score, 436 clients gained one level in english proficiency, 102 completed the naturalization application, 98 clients took the civics exam preparation class, and 472 clients participated in homebuyer education.
senior & social services program: this program provides recreational activities, health-related seminars, and access to benefits for seniors and low-income individuals. In 2014, 118 clients participated in at least 3 adult day program activities a week, 84 clients were employed through the senior community service employment program, 30 homebound clients were paired with volunteers who visited them to provide social support, 904 clients were screened to determine their benefits eligibility, 1,283 clients received utility assistance, 273 caregivers were served through caregiver education and support groups, 117 clients received free legal services, and 2,883 clients received free tax assistance.
community program:this program provides a weekend language school and cultural promotion. People were served through educational programs, including chinese, english, math, and college preparation classes, chinese library, chinese arts, and cultural activities; 350 people were served through extracurricular activities; and 15,000 people attended the annual lunar new year festival. Youth program:this program provides enriching academic out-of-school activities to youth in kindergarten through 12th grade. In 2014, 314 youth participated in character development; 55 youth received mentoring; 314 youth participated in academic success programs; 179 youth participated in summer camp; 239 parents participating in parenting classes, workshops, and presentations; 159 youth participated in drug prevention; 269 youth participated in health education; and 28 clients received domestic violence/substance abuse education services. Volunteers provided services for the following programs. * early learning center: 50 volunteers, 220 hours. * youth: 48 volunteers, 7,507 hours. * workforce development: 10 volunteers, 464 hours. * senior & social services: 77 volunteers, 6,503 hours. * community: 230 volunteers, 5,880 hours. * total: 415 volunteers, 20,574 hours.
