Mission: During the 1980 American Academy of Ophthalmology Annual meeting, a group of Chinese American ophthalmologists first got together... informally and ostensibly simply to find a good Chinese restaurant in Chicago. Something impromptu like this took place over succeeding years until 1986, when CAOS was first formally registered in the Academy Meeting book as an "alumni and related group". On May 7, 1990, thanks to the efforts of key individuals, CAOS was officially baptized and given nonprofit organization and tax exempt status by the IRS.
