The Chinese American Museum of Chicago in the hear of Chicago's Chinatown greatly succeeds in achieving its vision of preserving and transmitting the history and culture of Chinese Americans to the USA and to Chicago and the Midwest in particular. Their on-going exhibits "From the Great Wall to the Great Lakes" and "Stories Within",a multi-media presentation of interviews with Chicago Chinatown residents are both well-researched and presented, and they regularly change their temporary exhibitions (currently: 'The Chinese Helped Build the Railroad – The Railroad Helped Build America'). Highly recommended!

Yes, The Way We Wore exhibition of Chinese clothing on the first floor gallery is great, and the long time exhibit From the Great Wall to the Great Lakes on the second floor, which traces the immigration of Chinese Americans from South China to California in the Gold Rush of 1849, helping the build the Transcontinental RR after the Civil War, to Chicago and the Midwest, and the history of Chicago's Chinese American community is all well documented
and fascinatingly presented.

This is the only museum in the Midwest preserving the Chinese & Chinese American culture & history. A group of volunteers with dedication & hard work helped build this great museum.

The culture is not exactly respectful, and you need thick skin if you volunteer; thicker if you're paid staff. It would really help this organization to get a Code of Conduct, and then have it enforced somehow. With a revolving-door in place, this is not a great endorsement of the present board's ability to effectively fulfill its mission and to get the most out of its stakeholders.
