Mission: The children's museum of denver provides a safe and nurturing community where children, newborn through eight, and their grown-ups learn through play.
Programs: The museum's program areas include: exhibits, on-site facilitated programs, school-based facilitated programs (in schools or the museum) and outreach programs (in the museum or the community). Examples of current programs and exhibit areas include: 1) the center for the young child: the only developmentally appropriate play environment exclusively for newborn through four-year-olds and their caregivers in the rocky mountain region; 2) cmd fire station no. 1: features the only real fire truck in the city where children can freely explore and role-play using the truck as their major prop; 3) the anna jo haynes resource center: provides resources to caregivers on childhood development and ways to utilize museum time to maximize fun and learning experiences on an exhibit-by-exhibit basis; and 4) outreach programs: include a series of educational programs appropriate for school groups and early childhood educational centers, offered both at the museum or in schools or childcare centers. Museum programs develop a variety of skills including gross motor, fine motor, problem solving, critical thinking, literacy, arts and social development. All programs are grounded in strong educational pedagogy, meet developmentally appropriate practice guidelines and align with the colorado p-12 academic standards. As an active member of the association of children's museums and the american association of museums, the museum stays current on the best practices that ensure the most effective programs and exhibits in children's museums across the country.
