Do not donate! This "charity" is nothing but a telemarketing scam. 2/3 of the donations go to the telemarketers. A majority of the remainder goes in the pockets of the founder and his family members.

My husband is disabled with cancer and effects of whole brain radiation. He falls prey to these predators (Children's Cancer on the caller ID) when he takes their call. I took the phone from him under the guise of his making a pledge, and asked the caller for their Tax ID number. She gave me 38-3214263, for The Fndn for American Veterans, the wrong charity! They have many balls in the air as part of their magic act: they call from a Sacramento, CA area code for a scam charity in Michigan with a Pennsylvania physical address. All over the map, and they have no shame. Tactics are harsh and slimy, especially with people who have cognitive limits. I was heartened to see so many reviews on this webpage with the truth of how these snakes operate. Do not give them one red cent.

I love volunteering with the Children's Cancer Recovery Foundation. It is so special what they do for children with cancer nationwide. As a volunteer I have packed boxes of toys that go out to hospitals each quarter for kids fighting cancer, it is always a rewarding, fun experience with them!

I am giving this charity 0 stars. Awful!!!! Do not give them a dime!!! They prey on kind people. It's obvious my mother is confused. She has Alzheimer's disease and is in a nursing home. Somehow they got a hold of her new phone number (she is on the Do Not Call list). They conned her into pledging $ to them. I've called three times and unable to get a live person on the phone - real convenient, huh?! I asked them to stop calling/contacting her and told them about her situation. Now, after a little over a month, they tried to send her another letter re: her pledge. Too bad for them - mom's mail is forwarded to me. My brother is going to file a complaint. Sounds like a greedy bunch of people bent on scamming people under the guise of helping innocent, young cancer victims. Makes me sick!!!!!!!

I think they are really awful. Most of the people here seems to have said the same. My donation of $25.00 went in feeling like it was really under pressure. I don't think I'd ever send them anything again

I spoke to Vanessa to stop calling my home week after week and even 9AM in the morning because I am on the do not call registry. These people wont stop calling, so be rude to them. and they take in $11,000,000 a year, isnt that enough to afford a lavish lifestyle as the executive do???

I sent this organization $25.00 after receiving a letter in the mail. I thought they were a legitimate foundation, but after reading the reviews, i will never donate to the charity again. I tried to post it to my it's deductible list of charities and this charity is not even listed. It's a scam and i just wasted $25.00.

I received a call from this group asking me to donate and I asked them to send a pledge card. They addressed the card to my sibling who has never lived here. I then received a phone call from their outsourced fund raising company. When I told them my sibling was not here, they proceeded to hang up. After a brief discussion I never received a satisfactory answer.

I pledged $15 under duress and they sent me a new envelope four weeks in a row. I was going to send it until I read this site and now will just either ignore them or send the form back with cancel or something. Not sure I want them to see my address.

Cancer Recovery Foundation of America -- Just got a fundraising call from this org this AM.
This organization is without doubt a total and complete scam.
A whopping 80% of this org's income goes back into fundraising and 'administrative' costs -- like paying to its CEO an annual salary of $110,000 for a measly eighteen (18) hours of work on his part each week.
How does one get a ride on this gravy train?
If you don't believe it, check out Part VII (Compensation section) of the org's IRS Form 990 on Guidestar.org.

I have been getting calls from telemarketers claiming to be working for this charity (at least that is what the caller id says "children's cancer") anyway the voice mail usually picks up and they never leave a message but call again and again and again. Today I happened to be home and picked up the call. The lady asked for my mother who recently passed away. I politely gave her that information and was in the process of asking her to remove my mother's name since it is hurtful to hear them ask for her however I was planning on donating to them but as soon as I told her that my mother had passed away she RUDELY stated that SHE WOULD CALL BACK..........huh, what is that supposed to mean?? It was as if she thought I was lying. It was soooo hurtful. I said oh no DO NOT bother calling back but she just spoke louder over me and said yes I will be calling back. What kind of person does that. I was shaking and crying when I hung up.

I donated to the children's Cancer Fund and after research this fund and the other have same board members. Please tell them if they call you will file a complaint with the states attorney general's office. I told the telemarketer that I thought I just donated to that fund, after research they are sharing data bases. I I am sticking with donating to the American Red Cross or the Shrinners.

Got their "call." In response, I asked them to send info via USPS; that I would give only after researching from the paperwork they would mail me. They called back a week later and asked where the check for $20 was that I had "agreed" to donate. I told them that this was a lie, that I had asked for paper info, and that because of the verbal lies, I would not contribute, and told them to take my name of their calling list. A week or so later, I got a bill in the mail from them for the donation I had "agreed" upon. Beware, they only lie when they open their mouths and speak. Their paperwork says they have the "Charities Seal of Excellence from the ICA. ICA is a joke. I called them, if you pay them an annaul fee, they let you use their logo. They have no review policy of the actual programs or worthiness. They also said they do not take ANY complaints about problem member charities. I would rate these outfits with zero-stars, the this website demands at least 1!

A telemarketing company (Associate Community Services) called today asking for a donation for this charity. As a non-profit professional, I know the questions to ask and was transferred to a 'supervisor' who confirmed that only 15% of the donations goes to the charity while 85% is kept by the telemarketing company. The Charity's 2011 tax filings show that the telemarketing firms/fundraisers collected over $4million in donations and kept nearly $3million of it. Those are TERRIBLE rates!!! There are much more effective, responsible charities to donate to where more of your donation goes to the charitable cause. I could go on and on, but suffice it to say that this charity is more than a bit shady.

this charity uses a telemarketing company to ask for donations. that means part of your donation pays the telemarketer. they are VERY high pressure. We lost a child to cancer and have another charity we give to. the telemarketer pushed and pushed for a "small donation" of $50. I gave in to $15. Then received a follow up call asking when will the money be sent.

They called, and I said I couldn't contribute now because we are paying for cancer treatments ourselves, which leaves us no extra money; I was told they wouldn't call again. The next time they called was just before 9:00pm and I repeated the above. She wished me well and said they would take my name off the list. They called a third time, and once again I said there is no extra money now or the foreseeable future. The woman was very insistent, saying their minimum donation was $40 but i could give whatever I was comfortable giving. I told her $5 was all I could spare; she said the least they could take was $15 and they would send me a letter with instructions; my number would be taken off the list once I contributed. So I told her I would contribute just to get them to stop calling. I was switched over to a second person, who wanted my credit card number. She backed off the credit card demand when I told her I was expecting a letter, but she tried to convince me that by donating with a credit card I'd be helping the children a lot faster. After reading the report on them plus the reviews, they will be getting a letter from me instead of a donation--and I will be sending a letter to my state's Attorney General about this charity.

This is organization needs to revaluate their values in an effort to be a charity. They constantly call, sometimes twice a day, what I define as harassment. Then you get pledge cards in the mail weekly and they call asking why you haven't sent money. I highly encourage everyone to NOT donate a single dime to this organization. They need to be put out of business.

The Childrens Cancer Recovery Foundation does NOT even remove your phone number from their call list even if you contact them and ask them to REMOVE your number. On November 15, 2012, after receiving numerous calls from this organization, I spoke directly to a person named Eric Piper who said he would immediately take care of it. Today is November 19th and they called again at 8:55pm EST, this is not only ridiculous, it's absurd!! You can check them out at: http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=6911. Their overall score is: Overall 44.55; Financial 42.32; Accountability & Transparency 47.00. This organization may not be a scam, but it doesn't sound like a charity that I personally would want to donate to. :(

This organization has been pestering my 92-year-old mother on the phone to get her to send donations. I don't appreciate it - and I don't appreciate any organization that preys upon the very elderly. I don't know how they got her name or phone number, but I will never contribute to this or any other organization that uses telemarketing to solicit donations, especially from the elderly.

I have been continually harassed by this group for a donation for the last several weeks. They call about twice a day and claim I said I would donate $20. I never said that. They keep asking if I sent the check yet. I never donate or promise donations over the phone, only ask that they send some info, or tell them I will look into their organization. I use Charity Navigator all the time to send what little extra I have to a useful and honest charity. When I point out the truth, they yell at me and ask if I'm calling them a liar, or they hang up and call again later asking for a donation. When I try to call back, they immediately hang up. When I try to call the charity directly, they don't answer. Since Charity Navigator doesn't rate donation tactics, I'll chime in with the other reviewers here and tell you they're despicable. I also see their rating is less than when it comes to financials and transparency. Definitely find another charity! There are plenty of cancer charities out there that will do much more with your money.

BEWARE of this charity! Donate at your own risk! Do not waste your money with this charity. There are many reputable and worthwhile cancer and/or children’s charities and this is not one of them. The worst outreach program of any charity. Zero accountability for repeated harassment. You can't call them back because the 800 number they provide will automatically disconnect your call if you attempt to reach an operator or directory. Therefore, you will never be able to verify your donation or any information regarding the charity.
