From the moment we received our sixteen year old daughter's heart wrenching Lymphoma cancer diagnosis the CCA was by our families side bringing joy and comfort. The CCA goes above and beyond by reaching out showing you that there is a team ready and willing to walk this unimaginable journey with you while bringing comfort, light, joy and just so much compassion. Our daughter has had the most amazing chemo pal that brings empathy and just so much love and willingness to just listen and be a friend during a time that is so scary and painful. The activities the CCA provides for children of all ages is very much appreciated and gives these kids fighting cancer something to look forward to and fun memories that the entire family will forever cherish. I truly can not say enough wonderful things about the CCA and our family will be forever grateful to them for bringing us joy and light during a very dark time.
As a business owner and father I have many things vying for my attention. When i decided to align myself and my business with charitable organization i had many great organizations with excellent motives to choose from, but there was no doubt that the Children's Cancer Association stood far ahead of all of the other groups i investigated. Regina Ellis and the amazing team she has assembled are some of the most incredible people doing some of the most noble, inspiring and impactful work i have ever experienced. I would strongly encourage anyone to investigate the incredible work being done at the CCA.
CCA's mission to provide moments of Joy to seriously-ill kids is exactly what is needed to complement the critically important but impersonal work of healthcare. CCA's Music Medicine program creates smiles on both the kids and their parents suffering through long days in the hospital. I have heard first hand from teen-agers who remember their ChemoPals as the only person who made them feel like their pre-cancer selves. One added that his ChemoPal was the only one he could speak openly with because everyone else seemed too sad. CCA, through Joy-based programming, helps to remind kids of who they were before their diagnosis and grounds them so they don't feel lost in the large healthcare system appropriately focused on treating them. CCA volunteers see the kids for who they are, reminding them that they are more than their disease.
I have known about Children's Cancer Association for over 20 years after a dear friend's family needed their help. After experiencing CCA's joy-based programs, even as a third-party, I wanted to play a role in their mission for Joy to become a standard of care. For almost 20 years, I have now witnessed how CCA not only brings joy into the darkest of times, they have transformed lives with its power. I only look forward to the future and what CCA will do for the world of healthcare...not just for children but for all of us who will need the healing power of joy.
Two years ago I went to Joy Rocks for the first time. I quickly fell in love with the passion behind it, the stories of the families, and the fact that so many people could come to a party and be so generous with their money. I knew instantly that I wanted to be a part of CCA. I have loved volunteering and look forward to volunteering even more. Cancer is something that has touched my life in many ways through the ones I love and I have always had the mind set that I want to be a part of something bigger than me. I can't wait to meet more families and be a part of this wonderful organization.
I have been involved with the Children's Cancer Association for almost 2 years and I love everything about this organization. Who wouldn't love an organization whose focus is on helping sick children.
The staff is incredibly nice and helpful, they offer several different levels of involvement and appreciate each of their volunteers.
I am a chemo pal and have been matched with my kiddo for 5 months now. It took about 9 months to get matched and that's because the staff does such an amazing job of matching the right personalities to the right family in need. Christina, thank you for making such a great match for me! The family I'm working with is awesome and we have so much fun together.
Thank you CCA for making this happen. I have such a full heart after leaving my kiddo each week.
I have been a volunteer for the CCA for over two years and have been matched with 5 children so far as a Chemo Pal. It has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. As a volunteer I can see how CCA, through the Chemo Pal, Music RX and many other programs, impacts lives of children and their families. Aside from living through the horror of childhood cancer, these families are also maintaining homes, raising other children, working and paying bills. The CCA can’t cure cancer or take away the worries and pain but what CCA does is take just enough of the pressure off of these families to give them hope and peace.
The CCA is a wonderful organization. They truly help out families and children who need it. Being a chemo pal has been a great experience .
The CCA...I can't begin to express how wonderful this organization is!! The mission is simple, but the impact it has on the children and teens it serves, is monumental. As a Chemo Pal and volunteer myself, the happiness I experience in this position has been so profound. Being able to help prescribe joy to someone going through cancer or other serious illness has translated into my own life and what I strive to do for others on a daily basis. The many programs that the CCA has are geared toward providing friendships, laughter and fun. It allows a child or teen to take their mind off the painful treatments they are receiving. It allows families to come together or take time for peace. It brings a sense of comfort and joy in times when it is needed most. The radiating effect that the Children's Cancer Association has is not just limited to interactions in the hospital. It is a conscious effort that can make this world a better, more joyful place.
CCA is an integral part of our community serving a unique population that desperately needs joy as a part of their healthcare. I have seen the incredible impact that their programs have on families in their greatest time of need. The Chemo Pal Program provides a very special volunteer opportunity that is so rewarding. The staff are professional and compassionate. This is a wonderful organization to get involved with - as a volunteer, a donor, or if needed, as a family.
The staff at The CCA go above and beyond to find fun, joy filled, and highly valuable ways to ease the load for children and their families as they battle life threatening illnesses. From their top notch joyrx music programs which give children access to all sorts of music to listen to, to sing along with, and even create with on actual instruments, to their LINK program which takes care of the details like providing gift cards for the everyday needs such as gas, groceries, iPads, and even new tires for cars, all of these things are huge helps for the families. Their ChemoPal program takes caring for children and their families to the next level. Providing a friend to play games from the ChemoPal Closet while they are going through treatment and also providing parents with a moment to talk with doctors and even relax. The NatureRx program is an exciting new program which provides children with outdoor adventures to just be a kid! All of these amazing programs are made possible through fundraising and donations. These fundraising events are awesome opportunities for members of the community, like me, to get to know other volunteers, the staff, and to volunteer our time efficiently, effectively, and to have so much joy doing it! Every CCA event from the NYE Governor Ball, to The Holiday Ale Fest, Twilight Race, and the Wonder ball Gala are not just so much fun to volunteer at but they are so well organized, which really helps make the events so much more fun! To know every minute of my volunteer time is utilized and completely appreciated brings me so much joy! I always tell my friends just volunteer once and be prepared to be a volunteer for life as it truly does bring the volunteers so much joy! Whether you hear from the amazing families and children at the Gala, on social media, or through a CCA thank you letter you will feel the love and gratitude for your volunteer time well spent. Another favorite program is the CCA's Caring Cabin! What a beautifully kept cabin and land for these families to go and restore and just be together to laugh and play. All of these amazing programs have been developed by the wonderful CCA staff, their board of directors, and the exceptional relationships they have built with our community. This relationship has invited families, friends, and businesses to all be a part of this incredible mission of the CCA, to prescribe JOY, and this joy continues to bring joy not only to the awesome children fighting illness, but to their families and their friends it also brings joy to hospital staff, community members, businesses, and volunteers who are so proud to be able to work along side one of the greatest, classiest, and friendliest organizations out there. It is a pleasure to be a volunteer for them. They make it so easy to find ways to help that meet your schedule and your talents. On their staff they have a Volunteer coordinator and they will email you opportunities where you can easily sign up for a volunteer shift. You are given advance notice and detailed instructions on where and when to show up, parking information, and more! Upon arriving at your volunteer shift(s) you are greeted by the CCA staff and they are always thrilled to have you there! You are given ample instruction and any supplies needed to successfully do your shift. Throughout your volunteer shift you will feel appreciated and that what you are doing is helping out the team! It is an awesome experience! I encourage everyone to check out the CCA at joyrx.org and look at their amazing programs, epic community engagement, and their cool volunteer opportunities! While you are there feel free to sign up to be a volunteer!!! You will be glad you did!
I have been an active volunteer for CCA for almost two years. Their mission is amazing- they really do provide wonderful moments of joy to children and families across the greater Portland area. Best organization I have ever had the pleasure of working with!
I have been involved with the CCA and their programs in many different capacities and am always amazed by the work they do. Their work to innovate and grow while continuing to bring joy into the lives of sick children and teens, as well as their families is incredible. A nonprofit where all staff, board members, and volunteers are willing to go above and beyond to help touch so many lives and find ways to make people smile during their darkest times.
CCA is a unique organization focused on improving the emotional health of seriously ill children through the healing power of music, friendship and nature
The CCA is an amazing organization run by amazing folks! The work they do to help children and their families is invaluable.
CCA's mission is to spread Joy! What is not to like about this mission? The programs and outreach that CCA has to children with cancer & their families is unbelievable. I have seen first hand, what these programs can do on positively shifting a child’s mood. I hope to one day see CCA programs in each and every hospital. The effects of spreading Joy will change the outlook on the fight against cancer and I am excited to be apart of this journey with CCA.
CCA has been a community partner of mine for 9 years now. Our firm is focused on eradicating pediatric Cancer from the planet and helping those children that are currently suffering. CCA is our partner to help those unfortunate children that have received the life altering diagnosis of pediatric cancer. In particular they have two programs that I hope can become nationally available to every pediatric cancer patient. The first is the Chemo Pal program. The volunteers in the program weekly connect with the patient and spend meaningful time with them during their treatments. This allows the family to have a break and get other things done. The second is the Music RX program. This program brings music and musicians into the rooms of those suffering and distracts them for a time and lets them be more alive, bringing them hope, love and peace through music. CCA is a program that will benefit the entire country as they are able to grow and implement these unique programs in every pediatric care center in the nation.
I've been a Chemo Pal for the CCA for the past 8 years, and recently became a board member. I've seen first hand how the different CCA programs directly impact the families who have a child being treated for a serious (often terminal) illness. The joy these kids so desperately need in a dark time through Chemo Pals and Music RX, the financial relief the Link program offers, and the chance to make final memories as a family at the Caring Cabin. The CCA is a god-send for families grappling with their child going through the unthinkable.
They have continually blessed our family with their love and light. They have created a healing environment for our child that was diagnosed with leukemia in 2017 and for our entire family. We are truly grateful.
I am currently a Chemo Pal volunteer with CCA. The pure joy I receive during each of my visits with my mentee is beautiful.
The entire staff that I've worked with @ CCA as part of this program have demonstrated such compassion and care for both myself as a volunteer and my mentee andher family is excellent. This is an organization that is so worth being a part of and giving of my time.
The CCA has been an amazing program to volunteer with. I’ve been a Chemo-Pal for 7 years, and have felt blessed with the experiences available for my Chemo-Pal. The support and diversity of programs enrich the community!
I am proud of the caliber of civic engagement and volunteer leadership we have around the table at CCA. They deepen our business practices, elevate direct patient care and accelerate our growth. They are the heart and soul of our organization.
I first became acquainted with CCA through a colleague who had previously volunteered as a ChemoPal. He told me that I just had to connect with CCA and boy was he right! Once I met Regina and heard her story about her precious baby girl and saw the fight and commitment in her eyes, I was hooked! CCA is vital to our community and the organization, from staff, to board members to volunteers are ALL dedicated to the common goal of service and being their for kids and their families when they need help the most.
CCA is an absolutely amazing organization. At Oregon State, we work with them to bring joy to the families they work with by providing a game day experience to meet the players, coaches, and fans....CCA brings some much joy these families who live in constant stress. They help remind the kids to be kids and the parents to take a moment and just enjoy the experience...just an amazing group of people
CCA is an unbelievable and fantastic non-profit. Their goals and their mission of spreading joy to seriously ill kids and teens is a very unique approach that has an impact that cannot truly be measured. The experiences and memories that they are providing to the families allow people to just have a break from all the stress and struggle that come with fighting an illness and give them a moment to just enjoy life.
They are a national leader with their JoyRx mentality that really makes them unique and different. CCA recently teamed up with Oregon State and Unitus Community Credit Union to connect families with the football team to provide the child a relationship with not only the football staff but the players as well.
The opportunities that CCA gives these families is priceless. 4.Global organizations, families and individuals support CCA because this brand delivers JoyRx, impact and results.
I had no idea what it meant to have a 3 year old with Cancer. I didn’t know that my calendar for the next 3 1/2 years would be full of medication schedules and hospital appointments. I learned to live on very little sleep because my son was buzzing on steroids.
Children’s Cancer Association knew all of this. They knew just what I needed. I needed a magic fairy, a Chemo Pal, who would show up at the hospital for every appointment with a bag full of games, activities and books.
As my son progressed, and we emerged from a fog, we appreciated the full scope of CCA. They offered us fun activity respites (where everyone knows to wash their hands!), music programs and a family retreat at the coast.
Every person involved with CCA lives the message #JoyMatters !
My experience with the Children's Cancer Society has been truly amazing. Every aspect of the organization is run with admirable integrity and professionalism. I would recommend CCA to everyone!
The Children's Cancer Association not only pioneered bedside Joy.. the have continued a strong and transparent approach year after year after year. So many programs that all share one goal... Joy, but all serve in a different way. The CCA continues to work on strengthening their programs so that kiddos and families facing tragedy... still have some Joy during the toughest moments. The CCA is a life-changer for not only the families they serve, but their staff, volunteers, board members and sponsors as well. This non-profit exceeds expectations and standards... and is a perfect example of how a non-profit should be.. Helpful, Warm, Caring, Transparent, Engaging, Community-Leading and more. As a volunteer for the Children's Cancer Association, they have enhanced almost every aspect of my life making me better, every day... in almost everything I do. This is the type of organization you can't wait to be part of... especially when you can see first hand what they accomplish. I don't know what I would be doing or where I would be without the Children's Cancer Association.... and that's not coming from a served kiddo or family member.... it's from a volunteer. Chew on that thought when you are thinking about the best non-profits around.
From the moment I stepped foot in the Children's Cancer Association's front door, I felt an instant sense of warmth and joy..and you could feel it came from a special place. 2 minutes into the orientation I was hooked, but had no idea the CCA was about to change my life...as a volunteer. Witnessing the joy they bring to children's hospitals.. not only bedside but in the hallways and surgery, the connection was inevitable. I went from wanting to help to becoming addicted to volunteering for the CCA. Yah, I said it...an addict. I became a joy addict watching the kids frowns turn to smiles..bedside. Watching siblings and parents sigh in relief, smile and even laugh a little bit only adds to it. The CCA changed my life as human, friend, father and member of the community. I care more and love more because of the CCA. There's not enough room to talk about their greatness.... we would need about 500 pages. Anyone can volunteer anywhere....non-profits are awesome. BUT, there is no better place than the Children's Cancer Association when it comes to non-profits. How they directly affect the current and future lives of sick kids and their families is unmatched. Nothing has made the impact on my life, and others... like the CCA has. They should come with a warning label though... Warning: Even the smallest dose of the CCA may cause severe Joy, Goosebumps, Chills, Laughter, Excitement, Giggles, Tears, Smiles and Love.
Great Organization. Great events. This Organization helps the kids in many ways. Very happy to be part of CCA.
I have been involved with CCA for approximately 5 years. I have seen firsthand how joy can make such a huge difference in the lives of children and families going through cancer. I am a musician as well and to be able to witness first hand the power of music to heal, inspire, provide hope and renew is such a wonderful and powerful thing.
I love this organization - they do so much for families and kids going through such a scary process.
This outstanding organization is absolutely one of a kind and is very apparent to those that come in contact with it. Thousands of families are served through the various programs that CCA has to offer not only locally but nationally.
I have chosen to spend my time, support and money with this organization because I believe in everything they do. It is one of the most fiscally responsible organizations that I have ever come across and are strategic to maximize the funds raised toward specific programs.
The CCA brings joy to so many families in really touch times and leaves an everlasting impression on those they serve as well as those who are part of the organization!
After losing a young cousin to lukemia and then later losing my daughter, I believe there are few causes more worthy than the mission that the CCA carries out for children and families: bringing joy into the lives of those experiencing and supporting the fight of a lifetime.
I have been on the Ambassador Board of Children's Cancer Association for the last 5 years. It has been one of the most fulling experiences of my professional life. The care, professionalism, spirit and passion of everyone involved in running this organization has been truly inspiring.
I believe that CCA delivers on their mission consistently and with a level of transparency not seen in a lot of non-profits.
The staff are super friendly and helpful and supportive!
I first became introduced to CCA through Facebook and as I researched them I found out that they were based locally and were continually recognized for their excellence. I became a Chemo Pal mentor with them two years ago. Being able to deliver joy to seriously ill kids and teens is an incredible thing to be a part of and I would encourage everyone to check out different ways they can get involved at JoyRx.org.
CCA has created and formed a nonprofit mission and staff that is second to none in creating incredible opportunities for volunteers to positively engage with children and their families who are battling cancer! I recall my first few visits with my chemo pal at the hospital, he was very shy and really unsure why I there. Within a few months we were routinely found in the hallways playing games, laughing and building legos. The parents of my chemo pal would actually have a few moments of quite time in the hospital which was great. I can't thank CCA enough for the opportunity to volunteer. Z
When I moved to Portland in December of 2016, one of the first things I did was search for an organization that I could spend my time with, a cause that I could connect to and enjoy investing my time into. I'm so glad that I found the Children’s Cancer Association.
CCAs mission statement couldn’t speak to my heart more.
I love volunteering with CCA because small joys are so important to the brave kids and families they help.... My interactions with every single staff member and volunteer has been nothing short of heartwarming. I think we all understand the value of "joy" and though we may not know each other well enough quite yet, I know we all have a personal reason that CCA and their mission means so much.
I have been a Chemo Pal mentor for CCA for over two years now. I can't say enough wonderful things about this organization. I had the privilege of working in the front office last summer and loved loved every minute. The teams members were very friendly and helpful made me feel right at home.
I first heard about the CCA thru their Valentine's Day for The CCA Radioathon. Hearing Regina Ellis share her personal experience with childhood cancer and her family's heart to help other families get the joy they need during a difficult time made me want to be part of it. My employeer has worked with my coworkers to raise funds during the Valentine's Day for the CCA since 2007 and our involvement has evolved from not just fundraising but also volunteering along side The CCA and their awesome pool of Staff and Volunteers. It doesn't just bring joy to the little ones going through cancer and their families, but so much joy is given to the volunteers.
The CCA is an amazing group of people who work closely with members of the community, engaging with, and including one another for the benefit of families in need of a little something to look forward to.
From a logistical stand point, they run all of their fundraisers and volunteer opportunities with such skill, organization, efficiency all around, and gratitude. They understand the importance of each volunteer and their role in making these events successful not just financially but for building teamwork and community.
You will simply fall in love with this group of amazing people who work so hard and so smart, for the CCA.
I'm a Chemo Pal Mentor with CCA and it's a wonderful organization that really makes a difference in the lives of kids with cancer. Through the Chemo Pal Mentor program, JoyRx Music Program, the Caring Cabin, CCA brings joy, friendship, and experiences to children and their families while they are going through very difficult circumstances.
I volunteer as a Chemo Pal for the CCA, and I have to say it has been a life changing experience. The benefits of the volunteer experience are obvious, so I'd like to mention why I rate the CCA 5 stars as a non-profit.
My experience with the CCA has been 100%. From the application process, to the interview, through the ongoing support of the program. They are professional, thorough, and very organized. As a volunteer, I appreciate the support I receive and the stellar communication I have received over the last two years.
They are a great group of people, and I'm proud to be part of the organization.
Children's Cancer Association is beyond amazing! CCA's staff exceeds my expectations on an ongoing basis. They stay in frequent contact with their volunteers and give us the big picture of how our time and commitment makes a difference for children and families impacted by cancer. I truly appreciate the opportunity to be a volunteer with this organization.
I am a chemo pal mentor, and in order to be approved as such, I had to go through extensive background checks, fingerprint checks, medical tests, interviews and training. CCA takes their role seriously ensuring that they are creating the best environment and matching the correct mentor with each child. I am very proud to be a volunteer for CCA!
I've volunteered for the CCA for 2 years now. They do so many wonderful things for children and their families. They really do make a difference in the lives of children that are going throw some incredible hardships. I'm very proud to volunteer and support such a wonderful operation . Keep up the good work CCA! ♡
have been a chemo pal to a 6 year old boy who had a bone marrow transplant. The family has been very appreciative and I have become good friends with all of them. Very inspiring to see the work they do with children and their families facing difficult medical situations.
I'm a Chemo Pal and I've seen first hand with 4 different young boys that I've been matched with what a difference this program makes in their lives. In each case these young boys dread their appointments and once we are matched that changes dramatically. They look forward to going to their appointments to spend time playing with me. I believe that a happy child gets a lot better results from their treatments. I've also seen how this program will step in when families are having difficult times financially because of medical expenses. It's so wonderful to see an organization that fills so many needs when a family is dealing with a potentially fatal illness of a child.
I've been volunteering for them for 5 years now & the relationships I've formed with these young boys and their families is a blessing to each of us. I cherish my time with each boy & wish that this program could be in more places accross the country. It's one of a kind!
Volunteering as a chemo Pal for Children's Cancer Association has been such a wonderful and fulfilling experience! I love the people that work there and how dedicated and thoughtful they are to the organization and everybody involved in it, especially the children! I have to say, I am very thankful to be part of this organization. I really feel like I make a difference and it's all because CCA makes it possible!
I have been a Chemo Pal Mentor for almost two years. Children's Cancer Association always goes above and beyond for patients, their families, and their mentors. There has never been a time where I have felt unsure or unsupported thanks to my program supervisors and fellow Chemo Pals.
They go above and beyond for the families which they support. It's absolutely incredible.
National organizations, families and individuals support CCA because this brand delivers JoyRx, impact and results to nearly 22,000 children and teens across the US with cancer and other serious illnesses. I am passionate about CCA because no other organization makes sure to provide children and their families with transformative moments of joy through music, as well as enduring bonds of friendship through the mentoring of Chemo Pals. CCA staff and volunteers truly care about helping and supporting children and their families.
The Childrens Cancer Association is a wonderful and effective organization full of bright, caring, and creative individuals who are all driven by one desire: to bring joy and excitement to children and teens with cancer and other debilitating illnesses, as well as offer support and peace of mind to their families. Their volunteers are always forward thinking and positive, whether it's supporting the organization at a race or playing music for kids at a hospital. I greatly appreciate the work they do and I do my part, when I can, to spread their message to as many people as I can.
CCA is an absolutely amazing group! Supplying chemo PALS that bring toys and games to the hospital to hang out. All the events they provide give the kids things to look forward to. Beach days, soccer, basketball, football and hockey games. Holding craft nights at their office. Just a small bit of what they do.
I have been volunteering and working with the "Joy Squad" (young professionals board) for the past 3 years and the experience has been breathtaking. I've seen first hand the impact and joy that is created with children and teens through the in hospital programs. Kids being able to be kids while in the hospital, seeing the change in their mannerisms and inflection change, and the impact it has on their families as they are able to relax, play, and be present in these moments. CCA has taught me, a healthy young man, empathy and has shown me the true value of communities sharing and being vested in each other.
I am so honored to be able to work with this organization. The leaders took the worst kind of tragedy and created a vital and sustaining place and program where they offer positive and life-changing boosts to those families who are navigating the darkest hours of their lives. Dying of cancer is not glamorous, but CCA allows families to make their memories, to help their sick kids, to hold their families together, and to ease pain (physical and mental and spiritual). The leaders are real stewards of the resources they work with and THE MOST INNOVATIVE PEOPLE I have ever seen! I'm not the best joiner in the world, but I love my connection to CCA.
I am passionate about CCA because it recognizes how important fun, music, and joy are to the healing process in sick children. The mission marries my passions for music and kids while being an excellent steward of the financial resources we give it to fulfill its mission.
CCA is a national leader in delivering JoyRx to seriously-ill kids, teens, and their families. For me personally, CCA contributed to the joy welfare of my nephew and his family along with many others in the broader communities served. Check out some of the amazing programs from MyMusicRx, the Caring Cabin, or becoming a Chemo Pal. ( http://joyrx.org/get-involved/) There is no organization that delivers joy like CCA.
Over 20 years ago, Regina Ellis dared to imagine JOY in a place where it was previously never thought to be found....in a Portland Oregon hospital room, where her own daughter was battling a life threatening illness.
Joy has been singing, dancing, playing, and smiling with seriously ill children in Portland Hospitals ever since and now across the country and soon around the world. It is a scientifically proven fact that JOY can help heal. CCA will not stop until JOY is part of the prescription for every child in physical need. Every child deserves JOY.
After being involved for many years through connections with friends and family, Regina asked if I would help make a more direct and impactful contribution. As an Industrial Designer by education I love to develop ideas and create solutions that help make the world a better place. I feel incredibly blessed and humbled to be a part of CCA to do what I can to help them grow into being the Brand of JOY in pediatric hospitals around the world.
i have been a volunteer at CCA for a few years now and am a better person for it. What CCA does for children with serious illness and their families is both humbling and inspiring. The world is, with out a doubt, a better place because of CCA. i will always give my very best to CCA in hopes we help make a difference in the lives of the kids in this world who deserve a chance to grow. My dream for CCA is for them to grow their reach across the globe, giving as many sick kids in the world the Joy CCA delivers and that they deserve.
Review from CharityNavigator
Great people, great cause, great leadership.
Totally focused on the beneficiaries of this great non profit.
As a board member I get to see the inside and outside of the organization. Top notch administration and mission. Was a volunteer before a board member....This organization and its leadership made me want to do more!
CCA is a powerful force of joy for children with serious illnesses. CCA brings joy and music directly into the child's life; via the hospital room and the hallways.
One of my favorite CCA programs is the ChemoPal program. An adult is matched with a seriously ill child. The adult visits the child at the hospital with a duffel bag full of toys specific to that child's interest. The ChemoPal is there to play and bring frivolity to an otherwise long and lonely stay at the hospital.
I have been involved with CCA as a volunteer for 13 years. I have listened to many families tell their stories of the joy that their ChemoPal brought their child, and their family.
For the child, the ChemoPal is not a parent, not a nurse with needles, and not a doctor delivering more news on the child's health. The ChemoPal is there to play, and focus on the child. Mom and Dad can step out of the room and get a break to grab a coffee, pay bills, make phone calls and just catch a breath.
We have seen children continue their friendships with the ChemoPals, as well as the family. No one knows how much that relationship means, until they are stuck in the hospital.
The MusicRx program is another outstanding program that uses music to provide a little joy during the trying times of a serious illness.
Additionally, CCA treats its volunteers with respect, gratitude, professionalism and they provide great leadership and training for their volunteers.
I am so passionate about CCA because they deliver on authenticity and huge hearts.
Exceptional organization that maintains an unparalleled transparency and dedication to their cause. I will be a supporter for life.
CCA is a national leader in delivering JoyRx to seriously-ill kids and teens. Hearing the stories of Joy through Music rx are profound. The work they do is unbelievable and to see the families and the children smile is just the best. CCA will continue to do great things.
Global organizations, families and individuals support CCA because this brand delivers JoyRx, impact and results in hospitals across the nation. The inherent healing qualities of joy and music have been with us since the beginning of civilization ... CCA embodies the intent and spirit of "joy matters, music heals" for thousands of children and their families every day.
This organization has the ability to change the world! I've never seen a more innovative, kind, & well run charity in all my years as a volunteer. From their in hospital programs to providing support for families beyond the hospital, this organization has filled a much needed gap in childhood cancer. Talk about pioneers! They are involved with one of the first ever studies that is testing the healing power behind "music medicine". This Exponential Organization is truly expandable and has the ability to reach/help kiddos with cancer all over the world. Regina Ellis has developed an amazing leadership team that works diligently to provide much needed joy during a time when it's needed most. This organization is revolutionizing the way the world views children's hospitals.
JOY is contagious!
Music is such a simple yet powerful prescription for kids with serious disease. I watch in awe the expressions, the glow of the kid's eyes and the animation of happiness when the CCA JoySquad is with an ill child. There is no other organization opening this world to kids, I am grateful for all they do.
