I serve on many boards in this community so I have significant experience with the many nonprofits in the northern Nevada area. I can honestly say that the staff at the Children's Cabinet deeply care about the mission of the Cabinet. And the children that are served there are receiving exactly what they and this community needs - a commitment to them as the future of our community, education and both physical care and emotional care. Without this organization, many children and young adults would be forever lost.

We received permission from this family to share their experience. About 2 1/2 years ago the Enrollee became ill and was in the hospital for several months with bacteria that was in her breast. Her Husband had lost his job because he had to take care of her and that is when the youth’s school referred them to the CHERISH program at The Children’s Cabinet. The CHERISH Program met with the family for several weeks and then referred them to our HIPPY Program. The family completed year 2 and towards the end of year 2 the Enrollee divorced her husband due to his gambling addiction. The family started receiving counseling at The Children’s Cabinet in order to assist the children and to work on the marriage. The Enrollee decided divorce was still best and continued the therapy for the children. The youth has received many awards at school and teachers always ask the Enrollee to talk to other parents about what she does with her child to help him succeed in his education. The Enrollee always says that READING (doesn’t matter in what language anymore) and doing activities with him/spending time with him has made a huge impact on his life.

The wraparound services that we provided for the family helped them through an illness, divorce and language barriers and now the Enrollee is comfortable speaking to teachers and she has gained knowledge and confidence. The youth in the program and his mother dance and they are dancing at the graduation ceremony.
