Mission: The children's arts guild helps children transcend limiting expectations and explore and develop their authentic selves through creativity education.
Programs: Boys' arts express/girls' arts express: in 2017, we continued to operate the boys' arts express and girls' arts express as parallel comprehensive five-days-a-week after-school programs at our hub at the earth school in lower manhattan, new york. Nearly two hundred children, who attend k-5 in four schools in the east village participated in the program. During the two 19-week program cycles, children participated in a total of over 35,000 program hours.
the guild took over operational control of creative classrooms from the partnership for inner-city education in the fall of 2014. The cornerstones of the 20-year success of creative classrooms is an emphasis on engaging students in an exploration of their authentic experiences. In 2017, we continued to build on the creative classrooms model of professional development for educators to enable them to support students in to become engaged lifelong learners. We held the second annual children & authenticity conference: "exploring the heart of education. " over 100 educators participated in two days of workshops, roundtable discussions, and presentations by subject-matter experts. In conjunction with this work, the guild has begun to develop a blended training model in authenticity-based social-emotional learning.
creative classrooms continues to emphasize the integration of creativity and arts education with school-wide curricula. In 2017, we added a focus on literacy to our professional development and in-service training program for arts educators. We continued to host the art of authenticity and children's self-portraits exhibitions of students' art, with over 200 artists in grades k-8 participating in each exhibition.
