Mission: The children's advocacy center of suffolk county unites public, private and community partners to promote safety, healing and justice for child victims and their families. The organization works with police, prosecutors, social workers, advocates, medical and mental health professionals and others to provide high-quality specialized services for abused children and their families.
Programs: During fiscal year 2017, the support to end exploitation now (seen)program provided services to over 190 high risk and exploited youth. All of these victims received enhanced coordination from the seen case coordinator. Grants and gifts allowed the organization to sustain the program manager position at a full time level throughout the fiscal year and increase staffing to include an additional 1. 6 staff. (seen is now supported by 2. 6 ftes. ) seen continued its outreach and educational efforts and providing training to professionals regarding the commercial sexual exploitation of youth and the seen multidisciplinary response model. Seen provided education and information regarding the safe harbor legislation and the massachusetts human trafficking statute. Seen continued training communities across massachusetts and the u. S. Regarding a multidisiplinary response to exploited youth. Seen continues to be recognized nationally for its innovative and collaborative response model; cited as a leader in the field.
in fiscal year 2017, the cac sustained its increased mental health staffing and provision of on-site trauma intervention. (see family advocates, 4c). The organization also continued its prevention programming to address the unmet needs of children involved in child-to-child sexual abuse (young children exhibiting problematic sexual behavior). Funding from the national children's alliance and marigold charitable trust allow the organization to increase its services for young children with problematic sexual behavior and training. Training was provided to early childhood professionals and boston public school staff including teachers, student support, and school nurses. Over 150children were referred to the organization's mental health coordinator and family advocates for support, outreach and referral to appropriate services. The majority of these cases involved child-to-child sexual abuse referredby the department of children and families and declined for prosecution. In fiscal year 2017, the cac's victim of crime act (voca) grant was renewed to sustain two master's level social workers to provide evidence-based trauma services to children exposed to violence and their caregivers. Grant and foundation funding also supports an additional full-time master's level social worker providing family advocacy, case consultation and evidence based trauma and problematic sexual behavior treatment.
during fiscal year 2017, the organization's family advocates provided support and assistance to a total of over 400 families. The family advocate role was created to provide support and services to some of the children at the highest risk of abuse (very young children, pregnant teens,child endangerment concerns, and others). With the assistance of grantfunding from voca, the marigold charitable trust, help for children, the je & zb butler foundation and the cabot family charitable trust, the organization has been able to sustain 4. 6 master's level social workers. The family advocates provide support and advocacy, evidence based trauma assessment and treatment, as well as intervention for young children with problematic sexual behaviors.
through its outreach and training, the organization offers regular training opportunities for both community members and professionals. Training topics include: responding to disclosures of abuse, how to talk to your children about safety, commerical sexual exploitation, online safety, the multidisciplinary response to child abuse, forensic interviewing, trauma and sexual abuse evaluations, child-child sexual abuse and commercial sexual expoloitation of children.
