The President of the United States makes $400,000 a year. The US budget in 2021 was $2.772 trillion. Lois Lee, the founder and president of Children of the Night made $533.852 in 2021 (look up their 990 tax return on irs.gov. Children of the Night's budget in 2021 was $2,950,603. So, what does Children of the Night do? They have a hotline that is hardly ever called and they help underage female hookers in SE Asia learn English, I guess, to help them get more business from American tourists.

It's kind of hard to swallow that the president/founder of the "charity" that has a budget under $3 million makes nearly one and a half times that of the Vice President of the United States and nearly double that of a United States Congressman or Senator. So what does the organization do? Well, they teach English to teen prostitutes in Southeast Asia, Africa, and South America (to help them get customers from American sex tourists? "Hey, honey, wanna date?" works a whole lot better than "Salaan, malab, ma doonaysaa taariikhda?" to which the potential John goes "Huh?" and walks on.

Children of the Night is rescuing children who are involved in prostitution. They are also leading in the child sex trafficking movement. Raising money would help them rescue another 10,000 children from prostitution.

Imagine being involved with Children of the Night when you know all that was ever wanted was more money for the Founder Lois Lee. I used to stay with her when I was a teen. She told people I was her foster daughter. She used to take in street girls who prostituted into her apartment. Never boys. You gotta wonder why, as there were a lot of boys that needed help too. She never cared about them. Just the girls, specially the pretty ones. She would tell me to got out and find some kids because they were doing some story on them and she needed them to talk on camera. I begged her, to use some of the money to help them, but she told me to mind my own business. It was always about the money. I don't know how much she makes now but Im sure its a lot. I totally had it with her with them with all of it by the time I was 20.

I was a young girl when I was first introduced to Children of the Night. I had been in over 50 foster homes and group homes and had no one to trust or turn to. I had been used, abused, raped, and sold my whole life and had no hope left. Dr. Lois Lee and her employees helped me detox from heroin time and time again, flew me to different states to escape danger and get help, help to put my pimps in prison, tutored me as well as paid for me to receive my GED, provided me with a laptop and helped me enroll in college, helped me get necessities for my first apartment, helped me get my license to work in drug and alcohol facilities, helped me save my younger sisters who are in the foster care system as well from dangerous situations, continued to help me when I had an unplanned pregnancy and decided to give birth to my beautiful baby girl. I am so grateful for the donors that are so willing to provide help for the children associated with COTN! It is thanks to them that I was able to get the dental care that I needed, my tattoos removed after I was branded by my traffickers, COTN also paid out of pocket for me to be on accutane because my skin had broken out so horribly. I am now 25 years old with a 3 month old daughter. I still am going to college and work in a treatment center for mother’s and their children. I have learned to always have hope and know that there is a purpose to life. I have a purpose and I matter! I am more then just a pretty face or a nice body , my thoughts matter, my words are respected, and my ideas are important! Children of the night taught me this. They believed in me and held my hand until I believed in myself! Dr. Lois Lee is like a mother to me still to this day and children of the night will always be my family!

After reading some of these reviews I feel disgusted! Dr.Lois Lee built this organization from the ground up, and invested her life into saving children who no one else paid attention to or cared about! I met her at age 12 and am now almost 26 years old and continue to receive care packages and even just friendly hellos to make sure I am still doing well. I never in my life have been in such an amazing program and I can not even count on my fingers how many programs I have been in. Not one of my councilors from any other program bothered to stay in contact or acknowledge how I have managed to turn my life around. Lois invests her life into saving children just like me and I thank god for her every day. It is because of her and her team including Maribel, Maddie and Ms.Ventura that I am not just alive but a successful functioning member of society. The comments about her salary are immature and irrelevant. That is not anyone's business nor is it important in the least because she treats the residents there as if she gave birth to us herself! Taking us to movies, buying us clothes, bus fare, out for ice cream, taking us to get our hair fixed, ect. things every child should experience.

The amazing impact that Children of the Night has had on our exploited youth is nothing less than amazing! Lois, and the Children, are building a safety net as well as a productive approach to meaningful life! What is better than that? Wait, exposing the vermin that perpetuate the exploitation! They do this as well! My number one admired organization!

As someone who is committed to helping children of sex trafficking, I am impressed with the work of this organization. To help so many with so little is impressive. Dr. Lee and her team has certainly earned my support.

Personally I find the comments about salary and earnings quite disingenuous. RESULTS matter far more then one persons compensation. The results speak for themselves. There are literally tens of thousands of good-minded charities with officers who are paid much less. But the RESULTS of those charities are often substandard and full of red-tape and bureaucracy as well. These "do it on the cheap" organizations don't have the RESULTS. Pouring money into a program that doesn't work is far most wasteful or our generosity then one that DOES.

Okay, so let me get this straight. Children of the Night used to be called the California Association of Trollops and was partially run by people we now consider human traffickers. Suddenly Hugh Hefner gets involved because he wants to "rescue teenagers from the ravages of prostitution," gives lots and lots of money, till he finally becomes their "hero" a year after he is presumably having sex with twin teenage sisters at the age of 83. And in addition, the founder, executive director, Lois Lee, "devised a scheme" to put another children's charity out of business. She gets people beaten and apparently holds a loaded gun right up to the chest of a 17 year old actress, threatening to kill her. But wait! a 14 year old girl is sodomized inside the Children of the Night shelter. Of course, this is after she tried to have a benefit with a date with a call girl as a grand prize from Danni Ash's Hard Drive. And this was after Children of the Night was majorly fined by the United States Postal Service for misusing their nonprofit bulk mailing permit. Lois Lee apparently takes pride that when she was younger, she used to take teenage girls in the sex trade in, in her apartment. Hmmm. I wonder if there would be any raised eyebrows if Hugh Hefner or Charlie Sheen did that? Oh, and check out the salary of Lois Lee on Guidestar. She make close to a quarter of a mil on a $2 mil budget. Great place to send kids. Great place to donate. Not. I was a runaway. I was a teenage girl prostitute. I know about Children of the Night all too well. Hey, if you see anyone from there coming, run Forrest, run!

I am one of those ungrateful children who lived in the Children of the Night home for over 2 years. I was
not appreciative of staff who thought they could come in and make all of my problems go away with a
smile.
Children of the Night is not a place where people can come in and work and expect to feel good. It is
not about them it is about children, like me, who have suffered miserably at the hands of adults. That’s what makes Children of the Night different – it is about the kids not the staff.

Today I am a mother and successful professional – No other program or foster home could have or
would have seen me through my horrible childhood. I am sure some of the staff that came and left Children of the Night hated me too.

I am forever indebted to the staff and Lois Lee who stayed with me and saw me through the unraveling
of my childhood and preparation for my future.

No one else would have done this for me and the other children who lived in their home.

HOSTILE WORK ENVIRONMENT !!!
!Real bad experince working there. Awful and horrible behavior from staff and Ceo president Lois. I was excited once I was hired but that lasted about a week!
Employee QUIT majority of the time. Trust me I was there to witness it! They have minimum amount of staff working there which made it more difficult. . It created intense pressure. Not much training and not enough hourly pay for what we had to endure!!

if you do not want your pay checks on time, if you do not mind working with people with no professionalism and do not mind being humiliated on constant basis by everyone!!

THen this is the job for you! The worse experince ever!!!!! I quit bcus I deserved to be treated humanly and fair!!!!!! This is just the facts im stating here..... is nothing but the truth !!

I understand it's all about the children but what does it tell you when staff in that facility are being replaced by the second bcus they decide to quit....
What does it tell you about how she's running the organization!

We are talking about ADULTS who demonstrated inappropriate, rude, obnoxious behavior, that created a hostile work environment for the rest of the staff who was recently hired but decided to leave due to mistreatment.
There hostile behavior, actions and communication was severe. the hostility seriously disrupted all of the employee’s work.
Lois is very degrading and nasty . I made my research on Lois and she's has prior record of misconduct. I also couldn't fathomed that she is friends with Hugh Hefner a man who was was having sex with twins who were underage. The only thing she's after is the money and fame .

Could there possibly be a worse organization? Children of the Night is a supposed "helping" charity that operates behind locked doors and barred windows. It says that it "rescues" teenage girls from the sex trade, but it posts Hugh Hefner as it's "hero" on its website. A 14-year-old girl was sodomized inside its shelter. Its director, Lois Lee, CON's Founder and Executive Director, takes an obscenely high salary. Lee caused a friend of mine to be beaten while she watched and from what I heard from direct eye witnesses, she aimed a presumably loaded gun with a silencer attached at a 17-year-old girl whom she conned into believing that the girl the 17-year-old girl was trying to help was an endangered runaway. I would as soon recommend that young girls be sent to Al Qaeda than to CON. Maybe that's a pretty extreme statement, but the fact is that it would be a cold day in hell before I would send any girl to either.

Since numerous people are pointing out the CEO, I thought I'd post the link to what they're referring. I'd also like point out, not all charities are nearly as transparent with where their money goes, not to mention that over 85% goes directly to charity. So while I'm not a huge fan of that large a salary, please don't throw the proverbial baby with the bath water. They do a ton of good work that needs done, and they exist because of donations and volunteers. The CEO taking home a large salary, doesn't negate that good work, nor does it nullify the substantial amount of money and percentage of money that goes directly to gifts/charity/etc.

Just some thoughts, and the link to the charity info is below. Regardless of what I've said, or anyone else view the info and facts below and make your own decision

I've been a monthly donor for two years, but after learning from Charity Navigator that as of 2013, Lois Lee was taking a salary of ~ $240,000, my support will stop immediately. (The total annual revenue for Children of the Night is only about $1.5 million!) Other charitable organizations whose CEOs are paid the same amount (or less) as Lois have revenues of $80 million or more and are 30 times the size of COTN. Lois's compensation is unjustifiable in every way whatsoever.

Children of the NIght is the best organization I've ever had the priviledge of working for and Lois is beyond dedicated to the children her organization serves.

Her methods and ideas are progressive, well implemented, effective and reflected in the success of her program.

I ran the street teams for Children of the NIght in the 80's and 90's until it was no longer possible because gangs were dominating the streets and forced the kids underground. I can say from first hand expereience the services of Children of the Night need to be taken directly to the children where they survive. I don't know of any other agency capable of doing this other than Children of the Night.

Children of the Night is a caring, open, non-judgmental organization. It is a privately funded non-profit organization, dedicated to rescuing America’s children from the terrible ravages of prostitution and exploitation. The Children of the Night home is open to child prostitutes throughout the United States, and the Children of the Night hotline is open to rescue these children 24 hours a day; their hotline staff works closely with law enforcement to rescue children from pimps. After rescue, The Children of the Night Home has an on-site school and college placement program. Rescued kids complete a comprehensive program of academic and life-skills education, and upon completion, caseworkers are available to provide ongoing case management to hundreds of graduates. The staff is a caring, dedicated group of professionals.

I was living in Las Vegas, Nevada when I received a call from a girl I'll call "Jane Doe". She was only 17 years old. I knew she was living in a trailer with her father - and soon found out her father was actually her pimp. Turned on her father was also mom's pimp too. So every day he'd send mom and daughter out to bring him home "his money". In Vegas there's only a few shelters that will take someone under the age of 18 - and he knows where those shelters were. She was afraid if she went there - that he'd show up demanding to see her and as her father and with her being a minor that she could not refuse to see him. If she stayed with me she was also worried if he showed up with the police he could force them to make her leave and come home with him. She felt if she told the police she didn't want to go home with him because he was pimping her - that then he would take it out on her mom and her other sisters. I called Children of the Night and they said if I could get her to either an airport or a bus station they would arrange to pay for her transportation there to Los Angeles and take care of everything. She didn't have any ID to board a plane - so I took her to the bus station. Whenever I send someone to a program - I always ask them to call me to make sure they got admitted safe and sound. She told me she was made to feel welcome and felt very comfortable there at Children of the Night. They helped her get clean from drugs, get her GED, and a driver's license. I picked her up from the bus station when she came back to Vegas after CON helped her. She is now married, has two children, is clean from drugs and out of prostitution. Because of her age and the complication of her father being her pimp - I do not believe I could have helped her without CON being there for her the way they were. I also don't know of any other program that would have been able to respond so quickly when I called to have her on that bus just a few hours later. They are truly amazing and saving lives.

I was introduced to Lois and Children of the Night in 1996 as a victim. Children of the Night and Dr. Lois Lee helped me finish 2 years of high school in one year, become self reliant, and achive all the goals I have ever set out to do. Lois became my lifeline and without her I would probably be dead. She opened her heart and touched my life like no one else. COTN prosecuted the people who preyed on the innocent . I came to feel loved, and accepted. COTN helped me on a path that would turn my life around. I am who I am today because they were there for me. This is the least I can do to try and help other children who at some point will need their help. There are children living at COTN that need your help NOW. Please donate anything you can. www.childrenofthenight.org

I was in a NYC police station beaten up with no where to turn, when I called Children of the Night's hotline. Two days later I was a resident. It was a home where I finally felt accepted and I could take advantage of being a kid. The shelter, which I thought I was going to run from, ended up being my home for four years. During my four years, I achieved an honorable mention in the Los Angeles County Science Fair, a scholarship to attend the Tyra Bank's summer camp, T-Zone. The follwoing summer Tyra requested me to attend her camp as a junior mentor. I also joined the Los Angeles Valley Community College speech and debate team and won several awards for my speeches. Before entering a university, I had accumlated 30 college units. I walked into the shelter as a victimized child who was taken advantage of sexually, physically, and mentally, but I graduated from the shelter, not only as a confident individual, but an individual to conquer my own destiny.

Once a week for the past eight years I've taught journalism at the shelter's on-site school. Getting to know these kids and witnessing Lois Lee's dynamic dedication to their well being has inspired me to become a major donor as well as a volunteer. I am honored to have recently been asked to join the board. Without this program these children would have nowhere to be safe. Because of it, the sky's the limit for what they can achieve!
