I was a ward of the state and became a youth enrolled in CHOICES, Inc in there Independent Living Program in 1990. Choices Inc changed my life by providing me life skills to help me transition into a productive member of society. The staff provided encouragement, skills, mentoring and leadership which gave me the strength and determination to be successful despite the hand that was dealt to me. After finishing the program in 1992, I went on to college where I completed my Master‘s degree, I joined the military and currently I’m a Federal Government employee working for the Department of the Army as a Deputy, Information Technology Management Office. As a product of the Foster Care System teaches us adversity is a fact of life we understand we can’t control it “But” we can control our destiny and the outcome on how we will plan to react to it. This is one just one of the fundamental lessons that CHOICES teaches and it has stayed with me ever since.
Review from Guidestar
I served on the Board of Directors for this organization for 10 years until September 2009 and have served or am serving on 10 or more other nonprofit boards. I have watched this organization grow over the last several years and in addition to being compassionate, it has become very professional in its approach to providing caring environments for displaced youth in our community. It is the first child caring agency of its size to receive formal accredidation. Choices has a strong outcome orientation and is very professionally staffed with great social workers that I've witnessed performing minor miracles for several years. I commend them to all without reservation.
