Causes: Children & Youth, Children & Youth Services, Family Services, Human Services, Mental Health, Mental Health Treatment

Mission: To strengthen the emotional health and functioning of children, adults and families through counseling, education, foster care, adoption, advocacy and program development.

Programs: Child welfare: foster care - the agency provides temporary placement for children who have been removed from their homes by the courts due to parental abuse or neglect. The program recruits, screens and trains foster parents prior to matching them with these children. Adoption - the agency provides permanent homes for children who have been released by their biological family because of abuse or neglect. In recent years the agency has emphasized finding homes for hard-to-place children - frequently older children who have severe emotional or physical problems.

guardian: the guardian office provides quality guardianship and conservatorship services as assigned by the jackson county probate court for individuals who are unable to protect themselves. The program primarily provides clients with assistance in managing personal finances and making life decisions.

substance abuse: the agency provides counseling and treatment for substance abuse in individual, group or family sessions.

mental health/family counseling: agency therapists help families and individuals resolve problems related to marriage, employment, family relationships, child rearing, sexual activity, child abuse and neglect, domestic violence, divorce and custody trauma - problems which if left unresolved can be both socially and economically devastating. Treatment goals are oriented toward an achievement of increased autonomy. Prevention: the agency's breakout drug education program provides alcohol and drug education services for adolescents in 6th through 12th grades, parents, local businesses, and the community. This includes parent education to strengthen families to reduce child abuse and neglect. Special services are provided to first time offenders and their families. Court appointed adult guardian and conservator services are available for vulnerable adults who lack capacity to manage their affairs and make life decisions.
