Mission: To provide comprehensive educational opportunities for preschool children from low-income families; to provide alternatives in childcare for children of low-income families; and to foster and assist community interest in quality childcare and development.
Programs: Subsidized child care programs: operates a county-wide program of services for low income children and families, including subsidies for child care services for 2,257 families and 3,918 children. Staff handled 4,174 technical assistance calls to providers and provided community outreach activities including training, workshops, site visits and licensing orientation to approximately 1,457 providers.
head start and preschool: operates a county-wide program that provides a comprehensive preschool program to 2,076 children and families including the child care food program, parent involvement and mental and social services funded by head start and early head start and state preschool funds.
resource and referral programs: operates a group of special and direct projects within the county of ventura, including recruitment and training of child care providers, consumer education for working parents, and intervention services for at-risk pregnancies.
