Chicago Shares has been steadfastly fulfilling a unique mission for more than 20 years: namely, to provide a safe, convenient way for Chicagoans to provide immediate, respectful, one-to-one help to needy people. People who want to help the needy they encounter on the street buy Chicago Shares vouchers, and then give these vouchers (in $1 denominations) to the needy. The needy redeem the vouchers at nearby vendors, food stores. The vouchers can be used for food & necessities; never for alcohol and tobacco. NOTE -- While Guide Star does not have complete financial information (annual revenues, Form 990s, etc.) for Chicago Shares, visitors to this site should know that Chicago Shares regularly and carefully submits all required federal and state reports. What's more, Chicago Shares follows standard and appropriate financial management and cash-handling processes to ensure proper reporting of and accounting for all of its funds.
