The Chesapeake Bay Trust gave two grants to the Back Creek Conservancy while I was on the board of BCC. The first, a $62,000 planning grant, was made even before BCC had received 501(c)(3) designation, and it gave us a clear five-year path. The second grant, two years later, was $69,000 for a restoration and outreach project in the common area of a local homeowners association. In both grants, the CBT staff were excellent professionals who actively worked to bring the projects to fully satisfactory conclusions on time and on budget.

Mission: The mission of the Chesapeake Bay Trust is to promote public awareness and participation in the restoration and protection of the water quality and aquatic and land resources of the Chesapeake Bay region and other aquatic and land resources of the State. The Trust will engage residents of the region in programs that lead to actions that measurably improve local communities and increase resource stewardship. The Trust has been rated 4 stars on Charity Navigator for 16 years!
Results: In the 2018 fiscal year, the Trust: Planted 184,997 native trees, pollinator and other native plants. Removed 139,218 pounds of trash and debris. Engaged 84,326 students in outdoor learning experiences. Helped 4,552 teachers learn new ways to educate students about their environment and the Chesapeake Bay. Removed 56 acres of impervious surface and distributed 664 rain barrels. Created 83,635 square feet of rain gardens.
