Mission: The Cherokee Child Advocacy Council, Inc. is a non-profit, community based organization dedicated to the preventing child abuse and neglect and protecting and serving children and families.

Programs: The mission of the Council is accomplished through three programs Parents HELP, the Anna Crawford Children's Center and the Children's Stabilization and Assessment Center. Parents HELP (Helping Each Other Learn Parenting) was the original program developed by the council. This abuse prevention program provides parenting classes, support groups and in-home visitations that are facilitated by qualified Parent Mentors. Since its inception Parents HELP has assisted many Cherokee County parents build their confidence in parenting, thus creating happier families. In 2007, our three Parent Mentors provided 586 home visits and 170 hours of parent education and support meetings. The Anna Crawford Children Center (ACCC) opened their child-friendly facility for children who have disclosed abuse in 1993. Using the Children?s Advocacy model, the Center offers a multi-disciplinary approach to the investigation of cases of abuse. Children who have alleged abuse come to the Center for forensic interviews and when needed, therapy services. Support group services are also available to the non-offending family members or care givers. These services are provided at no cost to the clients. Therapists are often called into court hearings for expert testimony when alleged perpetrators are prosecuted. In 2007, the staff of Anna Crawford Children?s Center completed 300 forensic interview and 900 hours of therapy to victims and their families in Cherokee County.The Children's Stabilization and Assessment Center (CSAC) is the newest accomplishment of the Council. The 11,000 square foot facility provides a safe, stable temporary home for children who have been removed from custodial care by the State. Typically, children remain at the center for between 30 - 45 days or until they are reunified with their families or placement in an appropriate foster home occurs. Highly qualified staff members provide a warm, loving environment. Support services include home-cooked meals, transportation to each child?s home school, and individual counseling to address the issues that have brought them to our facility. Since May 1, 2008 we have had over 20 residents at the Center.
