Causes: Arts & Culture, Symphony Orchestras
Mission: The chelsea symphony is a non-profit, self-governing group of gifted musicians dedicated to producing performances of the highest quality and showcasing fellow orchestra members as conductors, soloists and composers. Tcs aims to be a cultural focus for manhattan's chelsea neighborhood and to present concerts of inspiring music both old and new. Tcs further aims to promote the musical education of its stakeholders, including conductors, musicians, composers and the community.
Programs: In 2016-17, the chelsea symphony presented about a dozen orchestral concerts for the benefit of the community in a variety of new york city venues, provided student and developing musicians with performance, composition and conducting opportunities, and supplied musicians for third-party collaborations and events. During the season we presented six new works by young composers, including the winner of tcs's new composition competition, and showcased more than 20 developing soloists and our conductors. Tcs presented two outreach concerts at rikers island jail venues, building on our mission to serve the community, one which is continuing into 2017-18.
