I am a disabled Jewish senior living in NE Philadelphia. My son lives with me and he is also disabled. We are low income and have only Social Security benefits. Some months ago, I contacted the Federation of Jewish Agencies inquiring about energy assistance. We were turned down for LIHEAP because our income is $6 a week over the limit. We keep our thermostat only on 58 degrees and in winter our house is always cold. The Federation kindly mailed me a package of printed materials about resources for Jewish people in Phila. and suburbs.

Last week, I received a phone call from a Rabbi who said he had a Purim package with a check in it for me and wanted to drop it off. I had no knowledge about this and thought it might be some sort of a scam. However, I remembered I'd telephoned the Federation and thought perhaps they'd added me to their mailing list. I called the Rabbi, he dropped off a box at my home containing foods, toiletries, and, much to my amazement, a check for $400.

I was genuinely moved by the generosity and kindness of this Agency, whose members don't even know me. My son and I will enjoy all of the food and other items, and the money will be applied to our overdue PGW bill; and part of it for dental care for myself.

This wonderful occurrence in our life just reminds me of the ongoing compassion and generosity of the Jewish people who care for their own, as well as many others. Thank you so much !
