Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Christianity, Homeless & Housing, Housing Development, Construction & Management, Religion

Mission: Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide and to making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat invites people from all faiths and walks of life to work together in partnership, building houses with families in need.

Results: Over 300 Charlotte County Florida families achieved the American Dream of owning their own Habitat home since 1987.

Target demographics: To provide reasonable price housing for all families

Direct beneficiaries per year: We helped 28 families get into homes during our 2013-2014 fiscal year. We completed repairs to 9 veterans homes. Last April during the 'Paint Your Heart Out' with Comcast and Team Punta Gorda, the exterior of 10 Punta Gorda resident homes were painted in one day. So we helped 47 families during our last fiscal year. WOW! Thank you Charlotte County for voting us Charlotte Sun's Reader's Choice winner for the Best Non Profit in Charlotte County for the third year in a row!

Geographic areas served: Charlotte County Florida

Programs: Home ownership opportunities for low income persons who are willing to put in 300 hours of sweat equity, attend classes, commit to a $1,000 escrow deposit, no felony convictions within the past 7 years, must live or work in Charlotte County for 12 months, and must be a U.S. Citizen or have a Permanent Resident Alien immigration status.

I dropped off several bags of cloths and other items that I no longer need including a watch, lantern, hand bags, etc. and the staff was very helpful.
The gentleman took the items from my car and brought me a donor receipt.
Much more professional response and handling of my donations than the other place beginning with a G.
I have several larger items and I will call for pick up soon.
Thanks,
Nancy

I have donated time and treasure to multiple non-profits over the years, and Charlotte County Habitat for Humanity has been the most effective at leveraging those resources. CCHFH offers deserving partner families an opportunity to truly solve their problems and change their lives for the better. Despite its successes, CCHFC's needs remain great as the number of those in need is outpacing the construction of new or rehabilitated homes.

I have had the pleasure of working with Charlotte County Habitat for Humanity as a web developer and graphic designer for over a year now. I started working for CCHFH under a paid job that rapidly moved to me volunteering services in addition to paid jobs from the CCHFH. I was inspired by the passion of the employees and volunteers who deeply help our Charlotte County community. One person donating their time, money or services is all it takes to affect change and I can not think of a greater organization that I could donate my time and services to in regards to working / volunteering with the Charlotte County Habitat for Humanity.
